I got my first yak tonight, OK  Malibu 2, XL, angling edition.   I am very excited to get it on the water.  I was wondering if anybody out there has the same model, and can share any info on things that you have done to trick it out, are there any concerns that you have with yours, and would advise me on.   My expectations are to see my wife and either child use it for general recreation... but then I will take my son out and get into some fish.

My wife and I bought the Malibu 2xl angler edition. I am a big guy and I have used it with either my wife on board or just myself. The kayak has handled great! Hmmm I have found that my kayak has a very small leak I haven't tested where, it might be coming from the hatch that it has, I have checked where the scuppers holes are at because of what some other people said and the water doesn't come in there. I think it has been coming in by the hatch not fully sealing.  Have taken the kayak out in some pretty good water. I live in Alaska and have made 3 trips out in the ocean in Cook Inlet and one trip out of whittier and one trip out of seward. Seward was a calmest place and I like how it handles. It isn't as fast as some other kayaks but for two people if you stay under the weight capacity handles great! Oh yeah, this summer I was able to land 8 halibut by myself the largest going 29 pounds. I also let some people use the kayak and they landed a small 10 pounder and then with some help, with another person on board landed a 32 pound halibut. Unfortunately my wife hasn't landed a halibut yet! Always next time! Good luck and hope it helps. Haven't tricked the kayak out. Been using the rod holders and choosing the days to go out, waiting for good weather and just getting out there when you can do it safely. Good luck!

I have one as well that I use to tote around my son when I take him kayak fishing.  It has a lot of room to move around on, and is stable as any wide kayak would be.
I plan to tandem fish out of Depoe Bay with my wife next year once or twice to give her the taste of kayak salt water fishing.  After that, she'll use my Hobie and I'll use my T-13.

Ya gotta envy someone who can just paddle out routinely and land a boatload of halibut.  Man...........
