I'm taking a friend to the Salmon River next Sunday to fish for a few Chinooks. Tides are good with highs at sunrise and sunset. We will be staying at Devil's lake SP. Does anyone have ideas to catch a few fish? I'm thinking of trolling hearing in the straight section downstream of the barn hole. At slack tide I want to do the plunk with corkies or bobber and sandshrimp.

Watch out for the bankers, some of them get a little territorial, if you guys start hearing banjos watch out for flying lead (sinkers)

quick update. Only 10% of the run was past the glass house hole. Our first two days were a waste trying to fish around all the people from deliverance. So my friend Lars asked what else was there to do since fishing was so slow and the banjos playing was getting a little scary. I said lets get some hearing and try trolling at the entrance. We ended up with eight chinook and 19 crab for three days. On Wednesday we both tagged out with a 17, 19, 19.75 and 20.5 pound fish. Saw one jet boat get smacked into the rocks by a a big set and the brothers both named Darriel almost lost a fight with breakers in a small 12' aluminum boat. My favorite comment from another fisherman was " I can not believe I was out fished by a couple guys in a peddle boat." Go Hobie

Way to go. I went trout fishing there in July when nobody was there and no banjo music. :banjo:  I love the scenery. Kind of wanted to try to get my first kayak salmon there but haven't heard much good about the culture there. Will probably try elsewhere. Keep up the good work.

Great job! How rough was the water where you were fishing (given that you saw a boat get smashed up)? Also really glad to hear that the only squealing you did was with delight at the fish :)

Nice! It is a cool spot. Cascade Head makes a beautiful backdrop for a day of good fishing.

Awesome day!  Lingbanger is right, its probably one of the more scenic place to salmon fish on the north coast.  Mostly hatchery or mostly wild fish?  Some of those wild fish get BIG on the Salmon.
