Another Anchor Option?

Make sure you have it set up so that the tension is on the top of the anchor when in normal operation.  I don't know if I'd use the clip on top.  Run the chain close and tight to the main shaft so the force is inline with it.   I don't normally run chain, but my rope is usually tight to the shaft.  A lot of play in the system makes it easier to inadvertently break your ziptie.  DAMHIK.

If I am going to carry a few hundred feet of line I bring a $6 round, orange, plastic extension cord winder from Home Depot.  It is cumbersome to crank up the anchor or crab trap using the winder, but once up it is a nice way to clear the line off the deck and stay organized.  See the BSteves anchor system article on this site. 

And, thanks, I never thought of using the Columbia River anchor attachment and zip-tie idea on my folding anchor - DOH!!

Just thought I would mention the setup i created for my Kayak.

I have a 3 lb folding anchor with the buoy and clip on the end. I installed 2 3" cleats on the back sides of my kayak ... roughly 16 inches from the end. I have attached ropes to them and 2 clam cleats or jam cleats up by my seat. This way I am able to anchor off either side depending on how I want to place myself for fishing. This worked great till I started fishing different lakes in wind and realized that sometimes i wanted to be anchored crosswind.

Solution.... put another anchor on...

So I built myself a setup that mounts on the front of my kayak using the handle mount. I bent a piece of plate steel into a U and mounted a chunk of ABS pipe onto it... I purchased a 1.5 lb anchor and buoy which I guided the rope straight through. Again I mounted 2 small clam cleats for this anchor rope. Now I can anchor off either side on the back, depending on wind direction and drop an anchor off the front to stop myself from drifting in the wind. I cut a slot in the top of the ABS pipe so if need be I can pull up on the anchor line, getting it out of the pipe and let it go. By feeding the rope directly through the buoy it easily slips up and down the rope. The bonus is I can pull up my front anchor and lock it into the clam cleat and my anchor is out of the water and NOT banging into my kayak...
