Today was my first attempt at salmon fishing out of my kayak.  I fished below Lower Granite Dam and had a great day.  Sad to say I didn’t catch a Chinook, but being a bass fisherman at heart, I was happy with the incidental I caught.  I have landed my fair share of 18” smallies, but not all are built the same because this one was a toad.  Of course, due to my awesome photography skills, the pic doesn’t do it justice.

Besides the bass pic I posted some pics of the terrain (that kayak is always getting in the way of the shot).  I found a sweet place to launch, which is hard to come by because most of the bank is steep riprap.  No PBs to share the water with because they have been doing better at the confluence, but I saw quite a few nooks roll at the surface.

I need to get lights on my yak so I can fish into the night because people do better then.  Do those of you that fish at night run only a bright clear light attached to a flag or also the green/red bow light?  By the way, does anyone have the Bending Branches Slice model paddle?  I think the model name describes what it does to your hands- slices the crap out of them.

Woah!  :o  That's a piggy!  Nice work; thanks for the report!

In most cases, kayaks only need to have a all around white light.  I have a Scotty one that rarely gets used, but I always have it with me.  It has it's own mounting spot which is a small, round flush mount made by Scotty that is mounted in the back of the tank well of my kayak.  You can also just mount a regular Scotty mount for a light on the back of your kayak just beyond the tank well and that will work too.

Hey, that would have earned a 2nd place trophy in the NA Bass Tourney.  That was one heck of a smallie you landed for first.  Good show mate.  Thanks for the lighting info.

Nice Bass Allen. I wish I was closer to you it looks like a nice place to fish. I have been looking at getting a lite for my Outback also. I think I am going to get a YakAttack VISICarbon Pro its about $85 which is on the expensive side but folds up into a nice package. You can check their web site at http://www.yakattack.us/Products/Products.html. Also I was talking with Nat ndogg at Next Adventure and it looks like they are going to carry their products.

I wish you were closer too because then I would have someone to yak fish with.  Thanks for  the link.
