I have two crab pots set out near a kayak friendly launch in Seattle. I wonder how long they will be out there before they are stolen?

For you kayak fisherman, if send me a personal message, I will tell you where they are. You can help yourself to some crabs, provided you add some new bait if necessary...

Let me know!

- Matt

Matt, I'd love to take you up on this offer.  What's the legalities of pulling someone else's pots, clearly marked with your name?

I don't exactly know. I figure if there is an issue, my cell phone # is on the pot, and you could have the warden give me a call if somehow there was an issue.

Have you pulled any crabs out lately?
I want to put my traps out but heard that they are not very close in at this time.

I dropped the pots and went back two hours later and there were three keepers. That's not a lot of information about crab density. I imagine there are tons in there by now!  ;)

Don't you have to pull the pots Sunday-Tuesday?

Maybe not in your area.

During the summer crab season, you had to do that. My understanding is that during the winter, it's 7 days a week in MA 10...

I got my limit of nice male Dungeness this evening (in the dark) and a couple red rocks. Left the pots out, and should have put some of the three extra keepers that I had to release back in the pots. Instead I let them go. I won't need crabs for a few more days, so if anyone wants to take my offer up, let me know. I won't mention it again ;-)

Got a couple of crabs this evening; rebaited the traps.

Thanks Matt!

Hey Matt I don't want to be the wet blanket, but in order for anyone to harvest crabs from your pots the owner of the pots needs to be present and have a Harvester assist card which is issued to handicap applicants of fishing and hunting licenses. And you must be within view of those harvesting from your pots. Other wise it is considered poaching. So if anyone is caught they can sure be sited and that wouldn't look good for yakers.
I guess you can ask yourself what the chances are of getting caught but why risk it I always say. Sorry!

Hey floatin, how are things in your neck of the woods?  We don't hear so much from you these days.  When you get a chance, post up a new recipe too!!!  Perhaps something shark related?   ;)

Your point is well taken, that's what I was wondering about.
