I think it'd have to be a lot colder than what you could stand before you'd have to worry about the plastic failing. I did a float down the Trask one Febuary day that was in the teens, came to a section of river that was frozen completely across and had to use my yak as an icebreaker. The plastic was still flexible, and broke through an inch or two of ice without any damage (not saying it's a good idea, but...)

Took the day off. So far have run into two of the biggest hazards of winter kayaking. Black ice and had a moose cross in front of me by about 30 ft barely had time to hit the brakes. The truck was still running. Dialed 911. Troopers said they had the driver on the phone. Details after I fish.

As a kid growing up at 7,000 ft elevation in Colorado,  we would be out sliding down hills and over jumps on cheap plastic sleds / discs in below zero temps, up hill both ways........  :o

They held up in those conditions so I would have little concerns while sitting in a modern polyethylene kayak in our climate.

OK .... not me but did you have any interest in seeing me as a kid sitting on a sled  ;D

I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

I LOVE WINTER!!!!!  Except now I am blind dang it.  Eyes were definitely not ready for that sitting here at work.

**SIGH** to be in my twenties again...not that it would have helped here....

Thanks a lot (Said with a LOT of sarcasm but lots of truth as well.)

Rudy,

Man your going about this cold weather thing all wrong! :dontknow:

The correct answer is come down and go fishing with Wali! :occasion14:  It has not gone below 15 here (Celsius!) and the daytime temps have been in the low 70's (Fahrenheit)

An invite from the master himself?  Holy cow, that is hard to turn down!  Thank you!  I'd probably pass out from heat exhaustion though!

I don't know what compels me to fish Alaska so hard.  I travel quite a bit and was eyeing up one of the inflatable hobies for my travels.  But no matter where I go, I always take the earliest flight back to Alaska so I can try to hit the waters here.  its not like I can't pay for an extra day or two and a guide.  Case in point.  I fly to Houston, TX tomorrow to take a class on the downstream petroleum industry.  I have some meetings then the class is Thursday & Friday.  Get on a flight Friday evening land in Alaska at 1am Sat and plan to be on the water Saturday morning after a few hours of sleep.  I have never been to Houston (Dallas & San Antonio once each) but it didn't even occur to me to stay the weekend and check things out...not even the fishing.  All I could think about was getting on the plane and getting back to Alaska to fish. Even I find that odd but that's just the way it happens every time.

Definitely gonna have to change that.  I'll be back in Seattle Nov 17-19.  Maybe I will take a day or two off and fish my old stomping grounds. in Western Washington.  But first ice can be so good up here.....

Rudy, look up Yessno in our directory here. He should still be listed. Moved to the Houston/Galveston area two years ago. Might be able to hook up with him when down there.
As of July 12th, I am, officially,  retired.

My previous job, I managed the businesses for the Quinault Indian Nation.  Lived in Ocean Shores, worked out of Taholah. Fished the wynoochie, quinault , queets salmon, river a bit. Loved the saltwater as well off Westport.

I sure had a great time fishing with mark and Jammer!!!

Will check mail!

Job didn't allow for much fishing time unfortunately. I sure do miss that winter steelheading though!!!!
