They do look nice and sturdy, and perhaps I am missing something, but how do they increase your storage capacity?

Damn demonic, you don't hold a punch  :boxing: and I laughed my ass off when I read that (no offense meant to anyone). I was looking at the picture thinking the same thing, but figured I must have just missed it  ???

I think it looks good at the angle snuffy, you should leave it. Also, you and Pelagic got it going on for the pvc ideas, but as mentioned,
I'm frickin lost as to the purpose.

You guys really can't see the purpose ????  Dude try thinking outside the box.  Think of them like you would sideboards for a pickup.  You start tossing full bags of fish (think two 30"+ lings and 7 rock fish or two 20lb salmon or a halibut) or anchor bouys plus an anchor plus a bait cooler etc and the shallow tank well gets full real quick.  The rails add height to the tankwell area and keep things contained.

When I first tried out a Hobie one of the first things I noticed was the lack of depth of the rear gear well as compared to other SOT's.  Many times I have thought, "Jeez, I think that drybag is going to roll off the pile I have back there if I don't strap it down."  I like the idea of rails on the back since it would make storing gear behind you much easier.

+1

However, my solution to the problem is to be lousy at catching fish.   ;D

I've made a fool of my self so often in my long life that I no longer give a shit.  If I don't understand; I ask.   I do get it now.

I also find the Hobie Revo rear well too shallow to be useful for catch.  My fish bag is on the bow clipped to come pad-eyes I installed.

And a dull light begins to illuminate above his head....Perfect example Pelagic, now I get it (duh!) As for your newest comment demonic, "I've made a fool of my self so often in my long life that I no longer give a shit." You must be paddling a tandem fella, because I feel like I'm in the same damned boat.  :occasion14:

I LOVE it. Great ideas! I like the idea of the rails to deepen the cargo space. I'm looking at a cross between the two systems that joesnuffy and pelagic use - somewhere between thick PVC and the number of mounts. I don't want to block the molded rod holders in the back either though.

Hmmmm... Should I go around or start just behind them? I'm thinking behind. My milk crate will extend just past that point.

Have any of you tried to fit (glue) smaller PVC snugly into a thicker piece of PVC? If so, is there something that would fit into the 1"? Thanks again.

Any advise on how to make it better?

I wonder how it could be made removable.   ???

For those of us that carry our kayaks upside down and on top of SUV's, the rail could be in the way.

I can remove the entire thing except the footings.  Right now I have the rails attached with stainless screws and that wouldn't be easy everytime you load and unload.

I bet if you took your time, you could drill all of the way through and use a pin of some sort.  this could be removed easy.

Got it! Got it! I got it! I put 1/2" electrical metal conduit pipe into 3/4" plastic sun resistant pipe. I'm looking at putting 4 to 6 footings (total) on the side rails. I'd really hate to cover the rod holders in the back of my Revo just to make the rail longer in the back. Hmmm...

Now with some of the above suggestions I'll have those rails done... uh, just in time for Willamette Springer season.

No time to lose!
