Nate, are we meeting up somewhere? What time should be heading out of Portland?

I was going to pick up Nate at Sellwood Park at 7:00. If someone is closer and can pick him up we can meet at a place along the route. I'm driving from Camas.

This looked like a good site to buy crabbing gear. Suggestions?

Hard to beat fresh dungies!!!  Yummy!

I;m not sure it will work for dungeness but for snow crabs and King Crab, we take live or fresh/frozen (can't get them here in U.S. (but I have a source for export only).  Instead of boiling them, take a knife or shears and remove a part of the shell on the thicker legs on top.  Then broil them instead of boiling them.

Many Asians look at boiled crab and go, that's like getting a used tea bag...all the flavor is lost into the water!  The snow crab (Tanner/opilio) and king crab come out so sweet you'd swear they put sugar on it.  The only down side is it can stick to the shell but that's just a little scraping to get the meat off.  Function over form....

Thats why I steam instead of boil Dungeness.. Takes way less time as you don't need to get a stainless beer keg (what I use) full of seawater to boil.  Plus you don't wash out the flavor..

I would also like to meet up and caravan down to Nehalem Bay. I have a trailer that can haul 3 kayaks if anybody needs a ride.

Wow, what a huge assortment of crabbing supplies, and as it turns out, a decent place to steal borrow a new avatar ;D

I have 2 extra rings to let someone use.  They are actually Jammer's so you will have to answer to him if you loose them.
The Fred Meyer Parking lot on Cornelius Pass Rd. is a good meeting place along the way.  We can meet there at 7:30 on the way down.
I really need to get a second car, bumming rides sucks.  That said, if anyone is in SE Portland and wants to pick me up that would be sweet and save islandhoppa some extra driving.

If you guys are headed down Hwy 6 and through Tillamook on your way to the Nehalem,  Tillamook Sporting Goods has a good selection of crabbing stuff (rings, traps, bait, guages, bait bags etc).  I don't always agree with their pricing (they tend to gouge, only place I've seen an $8 qwikfish :o) but they probably have the best selection in the area.  Open at 7am

30 ft should be enough.  Last time I was there most folks were crabbing in under 20 ft.

I could probably get you.  I can go north on I-5 and shoot over the Sellwood Bridge.  I have forcing myself to go to sleep earlier and wake up earlier. That way, I am not so worn out after fishing and the jet lag won't affect me so much when I travel east for work. But mainly for the fishing ;)
