Christmas Island Now Open for Kayak Fishing

Coastal Kayak Tours  &  the Adventure Dive and Fishing Lodge
First Booking dates available for February 14th 2012

Available for immediate press release:
We are pleased to announce the first kayak fishing packages at Christmas Island beginning February 14th 2012. Christmas Island is located 1,200 miles south of Hawaii in the central pacific island nation of Kiribati. This Island is actually the world’s largest coral atoll and a long time travel destination for fly fisherman. Finally kayak anglers will be able to fish the pristine inner lagoon and the off shore waters surrounding the atoll. Mother shipping will also be available for hire to kayak anglers. Kayak fishing packages are designed to accommodate anglers with a variety of activities provided by the Adventure Dive and Fishing Lodge. Reservations for kayak fishing packages on Christmas Island are being accepted by Coastal Kayak Tours. Air Pacific provides convenient once a week 737 jet service to Christmas Island from Honolulu Hawaii in the north and from Nadi, Fiji in the south. For the first year we are offering introductory kayak fishing package rates. These are the lowest available fishing package rates on the island. For complete details about these low rates and the spectacular kayak fishing at Christmas Island check out our new web site at www.christmasislandkayakfishing.com or contact David Elgas at [email protected]   Phone calls can be directed to (808) 638-9100

What initially drew us to Christmas Island for kayak fishing was the allure of getting off the beaten path to catch some big fish. Christmas Island is well known for it’s off shore pelagic fishing, giant trevally fishing, and fly fishing. The protected water of the inner lagoon is teaming with life and is best described like a giant aquarium. The massive and beautiful 120 square miles of lagoon is hard to put into words. It is so big that Captain Cook’s men got lost in the lagoon when they first tried to explore it.  Christmas Island is now considered a wildlife park and all of the fishing inside of the lagoon is catch and release.  The lagoon opens to the sea on the north west side of the atoll. The daily tidal changes rise and fall thus filling and draining the lagoon to the ocean every day.  Along this north west side of the atoll is the largest area of underwater coral reef. Most of the atoll drops quickly to 200 fathoms just off the shore line. Migrating pelagic fish are attracted to this atoll in the middle of the ocean as it offers them a rest and feeding grounds. Tuna, Dorado, Wahoo, Jacks and Billfish are all known to frequent the water offshore of the atoll.  Traveling anglers are only allowed to take home 25 pounds of fish caught off shore at the atoll thus encouraging catch and release of pelagic species.  Because the lagoon is all catch and release, recent reports reveal that 100 pound giant trevally’s regularly come into the lagoon to feed on milk fish and the thriving bait eco system. Bone fishing and Jack fishing on the lagoon flats is an incredible experience.  Large schools of fish travel onto the flats when the tide is high and it is amazing to see them feeding in such shallow waters.

There is much to see and to explore at Christmas Island. We hope you join Coastal Kayak Tours and the Adventure Dive and Fishing lodge to book a kayak fishing memory that will last a life time.  Aloha David Elgas

Kewl, looks like a nice round selection.

Got to play with an Adios over this past weekend cane poling for crappie on Logan Martin Lake. Feather casters are gonna love it since it gives them the ability to stand and sight fish. If my balance challenged and compromised back can allow me to do it on this boat, most anyone else can, too. took all of 10 minutes and i had my "lake legs" under me.

Exactly!  That's why we are getting them for down there.

Logan Martin Lake?  Go 'Bama!

HAH! yeh right, my Texas Tech lovin butt kept quiet this weekend.  ;D This past weekend was Rivalries Week in NCAA. Here, it was the Iron Bowl: Bama vs Auburn. Talk about crazed rabid fans supporting their team!!

Auburn got their butts stomped, I got to play with an interesting toy.

Allen -  want to try a couple of the sw flies i tied for this adventure? might be the closest i get to Kiritimati

What do they look like?  I'm only bring fly rods appropriate for bonefish on the flats.  So if they are bonefish flies, then SURE!   ;)

-Allen
how 'bout this?

bet if I trimmed up some of the ling flies they'd work, but I'd rather tie some new ones

Aloha gang...

I am going to get straight to the point... I had a last minute cancellation on a kayak fishing tour that was booked at Christmas island for Feb 14th -21st ... this has left me with one slot to fill.... because of this cancelation and the immediate need to fill the slot... I can reduce the weekly lodge rate to $1,000 dollars for the week of kayak fishing... this includes the lodge for 7 nights, all meals, guides, fishing kayaks, and lodge transfers to and from the airport... boat use is available for $150 dollars a day extra... this includes the fuel and captain... the boat can hold 4 anglers... kayak fishing packages are customizable for any kind of fishing...

If any of you could make the trip it would really help me out... $1,000 dollars is  the cheapest you will ever get for a fishing trip to Christmas island... jump on it... round trip flights to Christmas island from Honolulu run $1,000 dollars...  www.airpacific.com  so for folks in Hawaii this is a chance of a life time... spread the word... time is of essence... you can get more info on Christmas Island including direct links to Air Pacific at  www.christmasislandkayakfishing.com  or give me a call at (808) 638-9100... I can't believe I didn't see this post before now. That would've been awesome Paul.  As it stands right now, I'm overstocked on gear to bring, well , at least to fit in luggage.  I'm packing next weekend.  Perhaps I'll take some photo evidence and show you guys all the stuff I'm bringing.

We've heard stories of hundres of flies/lures lost in a weeks time ... per angler.  If we hit a blitz like that, we'll be out of gear half way through the week.  Hmmm, perhaps I need more gear.
