Sturgeon Video's: Willamette River 11/6/11

I cant resist! Here's some new video Craig and I shot on Sunday using HD GoPro's on the Willy. The 1st video is me Jammer and the 2nd is Craig. Please dont forget to click 720Hd and enlarge from bottom right corner if needed.

I think we both landed around 6 or 7 a piece. I also lost around 5. Crazy good for Craig and I. Oh well, I guess you take em when you get em. The sheriff came rolling by and said most the guys reported it was slow. Not too slow for us on Sunday.

Do you mind me asking where you launch from when fishing up near the falls? Also, are the locks in operation? I seem to recall reading somewhere that they were not due to budget shortfalls.

There's 3 parks with in a gun shot of each other nearby. Just Google earth it and pick your favorite launch. Below the falls are tough grounds though with a lot of mixing currents, deep pools and a lot of floating construction equipment right down river from where we were fishing. That's the main reason we stayed on anchor most of the time. Be cautious!

Any problems getting your anchors back there?

Anywhere above the old OC bridge is serious snagged anchor territory.  Be very careful when anchoring in that stretch of the river.

Very snaggy! I caught part of a log in 99 feet of water.  Had some serious bendo going till the bark peeled off.


Love the videos Jammer.  I screwed up most of my videos due to the camera pointing too high on my head.

Bet that log is worth booku bucks too!  Prolly been down there for hundreds of years.
There are logging companies that look for that kind of ancient wood sunk to the bottom of rivers to use as veneers for plywood.

The funny thing is that I didn't snag anything all day then at the end, I snagged that log twice.  Luckily, I got all my gear back both times.  I released the log chunks unharmed since I was using barbless hooks.

I was trying to figure out what that nasty thing was.  My first guess that you hooked a salmon mummy. A log makes way more sense.

You probably did not even buy a lumber tag this year and even if you did you can only keep limb clipped deciduous in that part of the river this time of year. I am pretty sure that was a conifer and protected while they spawn. It looks like it already dropped its cone

Is that what I see floating down the river every winter? Spawned out conifers?

Exactly Craig. At that point there only good for smoking. You can't get them to catch proper for a fire.
