... 16+ ozs of lead...are you serious? I thought the Civil War was over and we're still lobbing cannon balls. Where do you buy your weights, out of Gettysburg?

There are days when the river looks like a cascading chocolate shake and the sturgeon are hungry as heck.  10oz min to get to the bottom.  More to hold.  As short as the season is, you take advantage of every day you can.  These are also the days when you run 2 buoys on your anchor spool.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain

Well that is a pretty compelling argument for some heavier gear! I do not want to be penny-wise and pounds of sturgeon foolish!

I still see sturgeon fishing through the eyes of summer, but winter is coming.

Try casting 16 oz. of weight.....   Only had to do it a few times to hold bottom from the bank, but you feel more lake a human Trebuchet than a fisherman.

I have yet to try for sturgeon from a kayak, so this is strictly from a long time PB'er targeting oversize.

I have several rod / reel combo's I use for oversize, but my favorite is a 6' 3" custom built from a Seeker blank.  It is essentially a tuna stick rated for 100 - 130 lbs line range.   Reel is a Penn 50VW.    Not much fun until the fish get in the 9' and over range.

I have only started targeting keepers from the boat last year and enjoy going with lighter salmon rods in the 15 - 20 lbs range and smaller capacity reels.

I am still reading and taking notes from threads like this to see what will be best to grab when trying from the kayak next year.
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't
