There I was, just ready to waste some quality time cheating at words with friends and I got smacked with this ad:

Mostly pretty pictures of longboards in lovely shoulder high* conditions (in California?). The people surfing look good, but the machine performance looks pretty mediocre.  The add says it could be adapted to a yak and it probably could work well if it can produce the 20lbs of thrust it claims. You could also pack a lot more battery on a yak and the flushish design should still let you paddle when they go flat.  You'd have to build the boat around it though. I'll give it a year or two till some manufacturer molds a divot into the bottom of their yaks to accommodate it or it's next gen.  (My moneys is on OK)

So whats worst than a kayak with pedal's? A kayak with a motor. Where's he that should not be named when you need him?    I'm just mad because the truth be told, I have been working on a pedal jet system for a while using a large, low speed impeller and he beat me to the punch. >:(    Hmmm, twin impellers? :icon_scratch:
Naaah. Back to the lab..... ;D

Looks OK for rescue work and playing around in small surf. I just viewed a clip over on Surfline.com  of some hot free surfing in "fun size" N Shore Oahu waves, where one of the Wavejet team riders rode one and got eaten by the tube, wiped out, and got the board broken in half right across the area of the jet ports. Could get expensive!

I am 61, and I can still paddle out thru the shore pound and catch good waves under my own power. I love the excellent workout, which helps to keep me in shape to survive wipeouts and swim in if my leash breaks. I would not want to give that part of surfing up.

From their website:

The drive, or Pod, makes up to 12 miles per hour

That really hard to believe.

First Wali does not "just get"anything. :nono: I'm waaaay too cheap and broke for that.
Besides, its just not my style. I'm playing with a pedal jet system because I want something that runs shallower than a Hobie.
I'm also not really into motors as they either make too much noise or run on expensive batteries.
The workout is just lagniappe. ;D

Hey Wali, I think a pedal driven jet drive with dual impellers is actually a concept worth exploring. It would enable one to get rid of the "shark-attracting penguin wings" flappin under the yak when fishing the ocean. Its a cool idea!

It would work going over very shallow mudflats on my favorite estuary, if you could design it to chop up and/or pass through any eel grass and mud that gets sucked into the intakes. Or one could just avoid the shallow eel grass flats, or bust out the paddle.

I like that pedal driven jet drive idea.  Draw it up, I will have my dad machine the parts, I will whip up the concept boat (wood would be easy for a prototype).  My brother just moved close by and has a three car garage with only one car.  Sounds to me like I just got me a new shop.  >:D
