That is a great new magazine.  It sure leads one to some other pretty neat sites too.  Thanks for the heads-zup!  I had to go to Google to get it to load though.

Tell me about it. I fly fished for a long time w/o paying attention to FF'ers media and was pretty surprised when I saw it being portrayed as an almost old mans club. Thisisfly.com gave me a sigh of relief. :D

yeah, thisisfly.com and that group of youngsters that does the trout bum diaries series, will hopefully do a lot to change all that...sure, i learned from an old man , but it turned out he was the local master fly fisher who had been a friend of my dads family for a very long time.. which i didn't know until he had passed away many years later...

no offense to my fellow feather casters, but the big stigma against us besides being a bastion of old monied cigar chompers from the east, is that we have to actually practice our casting!! apparently it takes too much effort to learn, compared to picking up a bait casting or spinning rod... maybe it's due in part to our "modern" instant gratification culture,  i just don't know.. what i do know , is that it's one of my favorite peaceful past times.

so true, but so do lawyers... and hey, i have plenty spinning and bait casting set ups too, so i'm not denigrating the use of them.. was stating what i'd observed over the years..

It is funny how there is some real snobbery and real reverse snobbery. It all seems silly, to me.

Silly indeed Pisco.

Yeah, some people just want to do the whole "holier than thou" routine. But if they're paying so much attention to the gear someone else is using, most likely they're not having much fun fishing.

Reminds me of surfing. Shortboarders would give the longboarders grief because they rode huge boards that caught waves easy and the longboarders would give the shortboarders grief because they thought they surfed w/o style. I personally always thought that the stoke of surfing, no matter what kind of board they rode, is the same.

I feel the same is true about fishing. No matter what you use, the stoke of fishing puts the same smile on our faces. ;)

Z,

Thanks for the website.

It's been 20 years since I've given up my diehard flyfishing ways.  The magazine brings back memories of when I used to flyfish almost every weekend of the year (unless I was hunting).

Now I'm lucky to get the bug rod out more than 5 times per year.  I just enjoy all types of fishing now and can easily go from chironomids on a dropper with an expensive big-name brand fly rod to bloody chicken livers and a zebco all in the same day.

Mike
