Well, I drilled the first holes in my kayak yesterday, in the name of FF installation, and I thought I'd share.

I went with the scupper mounted transducer and 8 AAs as a power option.  Other than taking me a long time due to obsessively double and triple checking everything before executing anything, the installation went smoothly.

Thank you to everyone who has posted on FF installations, power options and hardware.  I referenced many articles during the planning of this project as I feel this sight is an invaluable source of creditable information.

Coming Soon: I have all the parts measured and cut for my kayak cart, minus the axle, and just need to assemble it.  After that I will be working on a drift anchor setup and general onboard storage/organization. Probably some pics of my progress.

I did the same for my first holes - checked, rechecked, fretted, postponed, then had a couple drinks and drilled.

From the photos you need two simple additions, the bungee hold-down for the Sonar Shield and the Rod Pod.

Leave the straps for surf launches (see reply #2).

When I mounted my downriggers to the outback I checked, rechecked, and checked again. The holes were perfectly aligned!  After patting myself on the back, I discovered I couldnt reach the bolts to place the nuts. Yah I could have built some contraption to extend my reach but I just gooped two of the holes and moved the mount over. ARGH!!!!

So beware. You not only need to measure the mounts and brackets, make sure you measure your arms!  Lol. Literally could not reach it by an inch or less.

Lesson learned. Good thing I am a function over form kinda guy.....

Thanks for the great idea.  See, that's what I mean about this site; the people on it are able to anticipate your needs before you are aware of them.

I have the bungee to do the job, but does anyone have an online vendor for the bungee mounting brackets?

That totally sounds like something I would do.  Thanks for the heads up.
