I can see it now...Christmas,  and most of us are kicked back opening presents and whatnot...but there's a half dozen or so guys out there feverishly fishing in secret.

Yeah, that sounds very, very familiar.

Yeah, that sounds very, very familiar.

Now I remember. I didn't really pay attention to AOTY last year. Now that I paid my $40, I check it every day.

I don't know who to cheer for most this year.

- Jammer's been on a roll and I love seeing the monsters he's been able to dredge up.  I can't wait to see the next Hail Mary fish!
- CBY has been on this hunt for years now and I'm dying to see him finally take home the gold!
- Rawky has worked his butt off to make this two in a row.  I can totally empathize with his situation and would love to see him pull it off.....

Good luck to all you guys!  I know that the home stretch is going to be hard fought.

Well hell.  I'm only one more species away from breaking the 1k point mark.  This was my goal for the year.

Any ideas on where I should go or target right now?

I could go try to break the world record for Kokes over at Wallowa Lake. :)

I've never fished for them out of the Yak and I don't know that lake at all..... :(

Anybody want to come over and try?

I'd love to try, but it's 8 hours from me.

Just get a flasher and some wedding rings and go for it!

Looks like these guys are catching them at or near the surface.

I guess the fishing is a lot better in late spring early summer.  I might give it a go.

I'd like to suggest that if during AOTY, an angler breaks the World Record, he is the instant winner :P

Cutthroat, Kokanee, Mackinaw, Steelhead, Chinook? Not sure distance wise but some of those might be possible.

I briefly held the largest Chum record for AOTY... then... wait for it... Fungunnin takes away the crown!  Albeit it is one of those paper burger king crowns I had been saving. Oh - I just hope this is indicative of a run for first place so that the AOTY is a resident of WA.  Oh Please, Oh please!!!!  He is just a small trout and panfish away from eternal glory!!!!

I've been temped to fish Wallowa lake but that 8 1/2 hr drive is a deal breaker.   When I'm fishing for Kokanee on Odell I use a lake troll flasher, rubber snubber, and a wedding ring rig.  For bait I use 1/2 a worm and 1 or 2 kernels of shopeg corn.  I use a downrigger to get my line down due to the fact the fish can be anywhere from 20 to 70 feet.  I have used a banana weight and didn't like it much because couldn't feel the fish very well of course Odell's Kokanee are a little smaller than Odell's.

Chums get a lot bigger than that, season aint over yet. This was an average one from last weekend, river fishing. All the same, I love to fight one like this from kayak. Hoping someone does it this year, the 250 point Chum.
