Well I headed to the Columbia on the 2nd to try for some keeper sturgeon.  The day started with a 2 hr drive to find an inversion in the area and the temps down to 21 degrees. I think the high made it to 34 :(

There where lots of PBs on the water but still room for everybody to fish.  Too bad the fish were not biting.  Nobody that I spoke with even had a bite up until i left at around 1:30pm.

The bad thing for the day was snagging my anchor.  I had to let all my line out and make it to shore so I could get enough leverage on it to break it out.  After finally retrieving it and replacing the breakaway ziptie, I headed back out.  After finding a suitable spot, I dropped the anchor again, as the chain slipped from my hand, the rope didn't move........ Somehow while getting it unstuck something happend between the chain and the rope and it was no longer connected.......  Goodbye Anchor! :(

I guess I know what I'll be picking up the next time I'm as Cabela's.

Here's a nice shot as get ready to head home for the day and another of my new "temporary" anchor.

Sorry to hear about the anchor and the lack of fish. Were you getting any bites at all or was it just dead? I thought about going out on the
1st or 2nd but my daughter got sick so I ended up not taking the kayak out. I did take my son out to try for some carp yesterday but we
did not catch any in the hour that we fished. With the rain and the wind that was all he was up for. Better luck next time Justin!

Ouch!  That is a bummer.   How did the new temp anchor work out for you?   Looks like it would work as long as it doesn't get snagged up.
PROGRESS IS JUST BEING THERE!

The crappy thing about the rock anchor was that if it snagged I would have lost a bunch of rope with it so I couldn't anchor where I wanted to.....  It held me fine in the slower water.  I think that rock weighed around 6 lbs.

I thought I got a couple bites real early but no hooksets.  Everybody I talked to said they hadn'teven got a bite.  I had a friend that was on a charter down there but I havn't talked to him yet to see how they did.

Sorry about the cold, the anchor and the lack of fish.  At least it doesn't look like it was windy.  If you need to use your rock anchor again I am sure there is a way to make it releasable with a few zip-ties.

I don't have any plans on taking the Yak out for a while.  Hopefully I'll have the anchor replaced by then.

'snuffy,
here's a substitute anchor that costs way less in the long run.

look halfway down the page and you;ll see the "rock anchor" basically a heavy duty mesh bag you load with local river rocks before you launch..

http://www.waterstrider.com/rafting-gear.htm

and here's the results of a simple web search that might be helpful too if you decide to go that route but with more economy

http://search.comcast.net/?cat=web&con=betae&q=rock+anchor+bags

good luck and stay safe.
As of July 12th, I am, officially,  retired.
