Today while fiddling around mounting a 48" "Dino Trough" to the Tandem Island (have I mentioned I'm an optimist?) I saw this Magnetic Wrist Band I picked up from Harbor Freight a few months ago.

I figured it might be a handy way to hold hooks or lures while fishing. I decided to lash it to the scabbard of my rescue knife. When it was done I noticed I now also have a signal mirror.

Just got my Standard Horizon HX851 VHF/GPS. It's huge, lucky it floats.

My PFD is now so crammed with stuff I may have completely negated its buoyancy.

I think I need a float for my PFD!!

Heh.  I'll be getting to that point soon most likely.

I'm still trying to figure out how and where to put the rescue knife and PLB.  Guess I'll also need to start stealing stuff from my fly-fishing vest.

The magnetic wristband is an awesome idea. I definitely need to pick one up.

I wouldn't want sharp hooks anywhere near my face in the event of a whale bump, or rogue wave.

Great Find !!!

I have spent so many hours spinning laps at HF convincing myself I need things,  I am surprised I never noticed those before.
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

I only have some mold on my PFD. I am not very fancy in my equipment yet. I am holding out for my heated, floating, GPS, depth finder, fish measuring, dry suit. Until then I will continue to cheap by :)

You just covered so much good ground in 1 post but my favorite part is:" I'll keep a eye open for you in circles in the fog due to compass off due to magnet."  That's exactly what I was thinking.

Nice vest!

But can you get back on the boat with it fully loaded?

I put a couple of super magnets from HDD on my SINK Pungo for the same use.  Works well for holding hooks & lures safely but where I can find them again.  I try to keep the PFD clean, just a whistle and line cutter attached.

Safety knife, license, whistle, bottle opener and fingernail clippers on the front, radio in my right pocket and then my leader, bait knife, and camera in my left pocket.

Hoppa,
I learned the hard way.... Too many DANHIKS  took me back to the axiom " Keep it slick, Slick"

Knife, whistle, strobe. Everything else like sun screen, wallet, Licenses,  goes into a 2 litre orange drybag with with 2 small crab pot floats attached, Radio goes into an Aquapac waterproof drybag with float attached. <DAMHIK x 3>

I can always re enter and chase down the floaters,.or a good samaritan can grab them for me as they pass by. Being that i'm a fatboy,  I can't do that easily if my pockets are stuffed.

Please, rethink what you are carrying on that vest.

As of July 12th, I am, officially,  retired.

On the straps, VHF, knife, whistle, and strobe.

Inside the pockets, fishing pliers, leader, camera, etc.
