I'm taking delivery on a Hobie Revolution 13 after the Alaska Sportsman's Show -- did a deal with a local vendor who will be at the show, they can show MY boat and I'll save the shipping cost.  Now I'm finalizing the specs on the boat and mulling two questions.  1: Do I go with standard fins, or start out with turbo fins on the Mirage Drive? Most of my fishing on this new boat will be saltwater -- Upper Cook Inlet, Resurrection Bay, Katchemak Bay, Passage Canal...

Second, because I'm an upper-body weakling I'll order a plug-in cart right away.  Standard or Heavy Duty?  Any significant difference between the two?

Kardinal84 and Mark Collett -- your input particularly helpful on this; you know the waters and beaches I'm referencing...

I like the turbo fins. I didn't get a chance to try out the standard ones. I hear they work just fine but if you're in a situation where the tides is pulling or pushing you, you might want to have a little more "oomph" to get you there.

Congrats on the purchase!

Go turbo. It's a great addition. And skip the plug-in cart and go with a wheeleez type. The beach cart is hard to beat. Scupper carts will damage the hull sooner or later.

Is that because the scupper holes are a vulnerable area on the hull? Might seem obvious, but I'm not sure I understand...

Go turbo.  I couldn't believe the improvement when I upgraded.  I would also get the larger sailing ruder if you are upgrading to turbo fins.

+3 on for the Turbo fins and the sailing rudder

Is that because the scupper holes are a vulnerable area on the hull?

Yep

(and it's really not that obvious)

DOn't be afraid of the scupper-hole wheels, but get the big ones, with the wider stance.  Turbo and sailing rudder all the way!!!

Turbo fins for sure and the sailing rudder is a pretty good upgrade to.  If you think you launch from sand beaches go with the beach cart, if not get the heavy-duty cart.

I noticed a big difference with turbo fins on my outback. About a 25-30 percent increase in speed for similar effort. I also feel like the sailing rudder greatly increased my effectiveness for smallmouth fishing. If all I was going to do was fish off anchor then neither is all that helpful. Otherwise I strongly recommend both.

     Akfishingirl,
I have a pretty good idea where you are heading. Go for it and have some fun when the weather allows.
I'd suggest hooking up with kardinal84  he is I'm Anchorage.A really fun guy to fish with.Plus he has more expirence than me with a mirage dtive.
I will be getting an Outback when I return south....and will be upgrading to the turbo fins.Listen to the guys on here that know...I think they know,  you know ????/

   Enjoy your new boat..

Thanks for the quick replies, gentlemen!  The turbo fins seem like a given now, considering the strong tides in Upper Cook Inlet where I plan to spend some of my time.  I hadn't really thought about the sailing rudder before your feedback -- now there's something more to consider.  My budget isn't unlimited, so if I need to economize somewhere that might be the spot.  I'll know better when the price quote comes in.

Mark, though I've not met K84, we've exchanged some fishing intelligence,  particularly about the Upper Kenai which I consider my home waters.  With any luck, we'll meet up on pursuit of halibut or salmon before the season is too far along -- he's got the experience there that I'm just now pursuing.  Better late than never! Road accessible flowing waters have gotten awfully crowded for this sourdough...

I have a Revo 13 with turbo fins, sailing rudder, and Wheelez cart (not the small one).  Ditto everyone else recommendations on these 3.  Also, see if they will throw in a couple of extra rudder pins.
