I've always used weed wacker plastic line, you drill holes in the bottom of a rubber maid dish pan, (there are two sizes of these) and feed the line in one hole and out the other making a small loop. cut off and glue with aquaclear. It helps if you rough up the outside bottom of the tub with coarse sandpaper around the holes so the aquaclear will adhere better.

As far as  bungee goes I 'd rather buy an adjustable  web belt from home depot and drill 3 holes in it and put stainless bolts and nuts on the side that faces your stomach, these things are cheap, useful and live forever...

looks like I didn't use stainless bolts on this one but I think you get the idea...

Nicely done. Yeah SS bolts would be the way to go. Especially if you're after sea run cutts. ;)

Old topic reply, but very valuable.

I plan on adding back in my 5 and 7 weight fly rods to my angling arsenal from the PA this year and the first question I had was about a stripping basket.  This thread has so many great ideas and good info I felt comfy reviving this one.

Even more relevant to the PA, as we have those dang pedals!

Wonderful for fishing, but fly line just loves diving down the Mirage Drive well, and tangling in the pedals and jaming in the pedal foot clips...

I was surprised when I saw the subject line and even more that you would need anything like that to fish. My elbows would be raw in no time at all.
I coil the strip line in my right hand in nice even coils line up so as not to tangle between my index and thumb fingers. None of my line ever touches the water or the bottom of the kayak. When I retrieve the line depending on the speed I eather coil the line in my hand (I gather the line in the palm of my hand) or again small loops. At the end when I am ready to cast again with the line properly coiled I can cast with the single back pull to to shoot the line. There are occasions when I will allow my line to the ground and it is then that the deck is clear. Just a thought guys! Zvonko

Nice stripping basket. I absolutely need one when I'm fly fishing while wading  in the surf. When fly fishing from kayaks, Mike Allen and I usually strip the line into a terry cloth towel spread across our laps.  Seems to work quite well for us. You can see Mike fly casting in his kayak in the video, "Hobie Fish the World," on the Hobie cat website.

Seen it. Awesome set of videos. I think there are 6 parts. Worth the watch.
