Bought 6 of them at the Dollar Tree for... yep, you guessed it $1 a piece.

True

Still no joy in Tacoma.  Dollar Tree only had the 2" type.

OK, since I'm a beginner and can get away with it, I'm going to ask the stupid question.  So, these things help keep you afloat if your yak fills up with water?

They keep your kayak from completely sinking.  Have no illusions though, a couple (6-10) pool noodles are not going to keep your kayak in usable status, it's just going to keep it out of Davey Jones' locker, and provide something to hold on to while waiting for rescue or being towed by your fellow yakker.

Also used as padding on Kayak carts (see Youtube) and as a mount for a Transducer.  Also fun to bat 4 year olds with.

Thanks guys!  That's what I thought, but just to be sure, they work on 5 year olds too?

Oh they work on 5 year olds but those little thugs start packing super soakers at that age so they're best approached from behind.

If worse comes to worse just stake out the freeway just before the exit to any lake, you should be able to pick up a couple on the shoulder of the road.  Probably a PFD or two as well.

The ones at dollar tree are fairly narrow, 2 in I believe. Anyone see any reason why about 6 of these won't work in something as heavy as an outback?
Just picked up half dozen this evening.

I installed 12 of the Dollar Tree pool noodles in my Outback.......6 on each side of the hull.....centered about mid-kayak.....I secured them together with 1/8" nylon line so they would not move around as I loaded/unloaded the kayak.

I just picked up 12 from the dollar store. they are the small ones but I'm just filling the hull with them.

How do you all fix them together to keep from sliding around?  I was just thinking of using my best friend. Duct Tape!

We have been going through packaging material like nobody's business lately. I snagged a garbage bag full of foam blocks before they went into the dumpster today. I will bring them to the ORC to give away. If somebody is really Jonesing for some before then, maybe we can figure a way to get it to you. I will be able to get more if the interest is there.

And in the far north, pool noodles are just now showing up in the stores -- Target on 100th has some, as does Fred Meyer on Benson & Seward.

walmart has the big ones here... but the are 3.88... is this the normal price?

The big ones are supposed to float up to 100 pounds... that seems kinda far fetched.

I found some 3 1/2 inch ones at Fred Meyer for $3.00.  Still no actual 4" ones but I'm allergic to both Target and Walmart these days.
