I have never bought a WA license before but I was thinking of doing it this year. I am interested to hear how many OR anglers purchase WA licenses.

Do you buy an out of state WA fishing license?

Do you buy just a freshwater license ($82.50)?

Do you buy just a saltwater license ($57.75)?

Do you buy the combined license ($121.55)? (I this this is fresh, salt and shellfish)

Thanks for any input. It looks like there are some nice lakes in WA that are not too far from Portland. I am not sure if I would use the ocean fishing license, but I was curious of OR folks do fish in the salt in WA sometimes.

Thanks for any input.

That's pretty expensive. It might be worth just getting a one day for the days you go up there.

Used to buy a yearly when I fished steelhead a lot on the SW Wash rivers, now that they jacked the price up I just do day licenses.  Short of fishing with friends who live in Washington, there is nothing north of the border that I can't get here, often easier and larger >:D

Thanks guys. I was thinking of getting one until I saw the price. I had incorrectly read that the out of state license for WA was reasonable ($50). I was all stoked till I went to the WDFW site. When you buy day licenses can you buy them in advance for a certain day? I could not tell from their website.

I am also a bit shocked by the one day fees ($18.15). I guess it makes sense given the annual fee, but I assume that you would need the additional $8.25 tag to fish for salmon or steelhead.

Sorry kids, daddy is going to have to drill those teeth himself so that he can afford a fishing trip to WA  :D

I thought about the Freshwater only to fish for Kokanee with Kevbro.  But I would have to do it four times to make it worth it.  I will probably just do the day passes if I go.

Dont forget to add in the other fees such as Discovery pass if you plan on using a state run facility or laumch.  You can get that day to day too but it more than triples the annual cost.

Aslo factor in the Columbia river user fee if you eant to fish that or ANY of its triba.

Then add in the two rod endorsement on top of that.

I used to complain about the additional fee Oregon imposed on small craft for invasive species. Not any more. Thats far cheaper than all the other crap we have to pay for ip here.
As of July 12th, I am, officially,  retired.

As a Washington resident ,  I had the same question about getting an Oregon license. Day trip or annual ? I guess it depends on how often I cross the border....
Cost effectiveness may be. the issue with that choice . l do plan on fishing both as much as possible.

I'm so looking forward to getting home. The temperature is gonna be minus 52 ambient this weekend. Hope the wind isn't blowing...

Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent
