Is there a chance that other species of fish will be biting this weekend? Salmon, Steelhead, Bass?

I could use some AOTY points :P

There may be a small chance to catch a Chinook but, I am going to troll on the way to and back from the sturgeon holes.  Who knows?

I fished for a minute yesterday for Sturgeon on the Willy with a friend and as we were heading back towards our launch saw a dude hook a bright chrome hatchery Steelhead. We watched him fight, land and bonk it right in front of us. The coolest part is he was set up with a Prawn Spinner for Springers when he hooked it. I was looking at his rig that was stuck in the net with the fish and its very similar to the set up I posted on the homepage, but he was using a small bright silver blade up front.. I wish I had pictures..

On a side note the Sturgeon fishing yesterday started out pretty slow for the first hour or so, but quickly picked up into us averaging around a sturgeon each every 15 minutes or so. The tide definitely had something to do with it. The biggest Sturgeon of the day was around 50-52" with another keeper or two, followed with 5 or 6 shakers.. Its on! There's a lot of fish milling around down there. I have a feeling its going to be a good year!! Starts Friday!

Thanks for the report Jammer! So is it better on the outgoing tide? I still can't figure it out.

Who knows for sure? It seems like as of lately its been during the second half of the outgoing tide, but I would imagine as big as Sturgeon are, they must always be open for a bite to eat if it's in front of their face.

What I'm really interested in are Spots recipes for Black Pepper Sturgeon in oyster sauce and Sesame Sturgeon..

I was interested in all of those recipes. I have to catch one first, though.

Welcome minnowmagnet! I think everyone's goal is a keeper this weekend! How many feet of water are you fishing in? I'm tempted to head down there on Friday and give it a try. I fished George Rogers on Sunday and didn't do very well. Are you going to be there at first light?
Yeah, I'll be there at first light. I think it's about 80ft, but I don't have any electronics on board. The catching has been swell for me there ever since christmas, using herring. Squid works great too but I like the herring with Sturgeon Feast. Hopefully it's not too windy on Friday, cause that ruins a good sturgeon day for me. Rain is okay.

Cool. If we don't have luck at George Rogers we might head down there. I'll have my VHF on channel 69 if anyone else is out. Ha.

As we speak (8:15pm) there are 19 boats anchored within 100 yards of the Oregon City Bridge and more guys at the ramp loading in (sportcraft).  I can say with no reservations that what you will see tomorrow and Saturday on the river is something thats never been seen before.  Just plain crazy :o  Keep your head on a swivel, its going to be busy.
