If I have an overly active fish, I put the fish on the board and put the camera in video mode and hold the camera so it has a good view of the fishy.  At 30 - 60 frames/second (depending on the setting i choose) I have always been able to get a usable shot that I can pull from the video.

Measuring anything over 40" that you plan to CNR is not easy and there are no magic tricks to make it easy ... but hell at that point it is a good problem to have. You realistically only have 3 fish to worry about lingcod, sturgeon and under some weird circumstance halibut. The up side here is that all of these fish are pretty hardy and can survive a fair amount of time out of the water.
Good luck!

I videoed SteveHawk's 35" Dino last week. I think it tales more skill to single handed document a sturgeon than to catch one.

Does AOTY preclude photo assistance?

Looks like I've got some fun to look forward to...pings and buts much bigger than 40" up here.  Not saying I can catch them like that all day, but fish that big are not uncommon
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

Absolutely! AK is where I caught halibut that I couldn't enter because I didn't get a good measurement.
If you want to score a big ling or but you are going to have to have help or kill it

I'm not opposed to killin.  Not gonna kill every fish I catch, but there will be blood on my deck
