So I started the rigging process for my Yak - figure others can learn from my mistakes....

I debated between using Scotty or Ram mounts for the rod holders - ended up going with Scotty flush mounts behind the seat because they were available at Joes and I am way too impatient to wait for KFS to ship me Ram stuff.

Got the holes drilled, got the mounts in and immediately decided to switch to Ram mounts because the rod holders, even with the extensions are clunky and awkward to use that close to the seat - ordered Scotty Ram Adaptors and a couple of Ram rod tubes from KFS - should have them right around Xmas.

Forward, I ordered a couple more Ram mounts and need to figure out where I am going to put them - I think the holders behind the seat are more for storage (and a possible Scotty Lake Troller) than fishing because of access.

I also ordered a 6" Hobie Hatch that I am going to mount in the center - we'll see how that turns out - but this yak (see pic) really isn't laid out for fishing like many of the newer ones, so I need to do something give me accessible storage while on the water.

I think I am going to leave the cargo hatch for the tank well behind the seat on the beach when I am fishing "calm" waters - there is no scupper in there, so it could fill with water, but I covet the storage area...speaking of scuppers, this Hobie only has one scupper - under the seat.

Will post pics as rigging progresses.

Do you still have this Hobie? Sweet boat! It looks like the original model.
