Log books

I'm going to start keeping a log book and am looking for ideas as to what to include.  Being an engineer, I'm sure I'll go overboard on this with too much information, but I'll give it a whirl and see if I can stick to it.

Date, tides/current, sunrise/sunset, time fish caught, on what, depth, method, where (GPS coords), weather pattern including baro, moon ...

I'll probably just use my camera to dictate audio while I'm on the water and transcribe it later.  Would love to figure out the mapping SW for my GPS and include that as part of the record.

And if I get really ambitious, I'll warm up my (poor!) coding skills and see if I can't figure out a form based system here and perhaps hook it into posts.  Any closet coders want to help on this?

Actually, I've thought about using the new google maps "mymaps" feature for recording fishing trips.

Do a search on "Google maps and GPS breadcrumbs".  There are a few examples out there.  Now that's something I'd like to see work a little better.  There's probably something out there that works good out of the box,  but that damn work thing is calling ...

I used a freeware palm database for a while (till I soaked the palm  ). It was  slicker than snot and synced (syank?) easily with my box at home. This looks like it. But I got it from another source.

 Tidetool is another chunk of freeware that is waay way cool and wonderfully useful. Both should load readily into a palm phone (am I the only one still using a treo?) or you rocket scientists should be able to port it to ,,,, something else.
