I have seen some videos of beach launching but I can't seem to find any on getting back to shore.

Launching looks tricky. I imagine landing is even trickier.

Can you guys describe the technique  or link me to some videos of it?

Landing on the beach is a lot trickier than launching, best bet is to stay on the back side of the swell and paddle like hell to stay in the trough in between the breaking waves. Getting caught on the frontside of a breaking wave only leads to a nice saltwater swim in the surf zone, and a frantic scramble to catch any loose gear.
If it wasn't for flashbacks, I'd have no memories at all.

There is no short answer to your question.  ;) I've got a few videos on my youtube account and there are many others on the web for you to study.  In the context of kayak fishing it is essentially a controlled crash.  The only real way to get the hang of it is to take your kayak out on a really mellow surf day and practice, practice, practice.  Do a search for "high brace" or "low brace" and if you can get the technique figured out, it will improve your chances of staying right-side-up drastically.  There are also plenty of discussions on this site in past threads which speak to your exact question.  Good luck!

Plan to get wet. Take you yak out empty and play in the surf. Don't let you boat get turned sideways.
Bring a budy to take pictures so we can enjoy.  ;D

I heard that coming back in was harder than going out as well.  This is a bit misleading.

Going out can be an all out workout for the arms, punching through several waves (fun as heck though).
Coming back in....once you start into the series of incoming waves you are guaranteed to make it to the beach without much effort.
Now if you decide that you absolutely have to be in the kayak, and the kayak absolutely has to be upright when doing so, well then yeah that makes it a lot harder to do.  ;D

My success rate on keeping my kayak under me upon beaching is pretty low, but I'm not really concerned as everything is leashed, floats, and/or is waterproof.   8)

Here's some video from last years Next Adventure Beach Day at Indian Beach State Park near Cannon Beach. One of the main reasons we went out this day was to practice in the surf.

In a Hobie my favorite way to launch is to walk out until I can get the drive in and then crank through the surf zone.   On the way back the best way have found so far is to use my drive to try to keep up with the back of waves.  I  keep my paddle in my hands and ready to brace.  I still suck at landings though and am going to try lauding backwards Walli style.  Also a helmet helps.

Thanks, D rock.   ;)  Almost one year ago to the day and I can still feel that wave.

Wasn't someone here advocating making a beach landing in the surf backwards?  Has anyone tried that. I have yet to huli on landing but have come close and I know my time is coming.....
