I want to build a drift anchor set up.
The only problem is that my stern is not flat. It has a groove for where the rudder is supposed to go.
Any ideas on what to do. I really don't want to mount it on the front either.
I also read the thread about building one. So thats what I want to go for.

I've been meaning to tackle this one as I have the same problem.  I was thinking of some combination of standoffs (with angles to account for the shape) and using the rudder mounts you see on the end.  Probably need to install a 4" hatch at the back of the tankwell in order to gain access to inside back there.

Thanks for the info.
Any suggestions on what I can do for now for an anchor?
I was thinking of an 8 LBS anchor rigged off to the side for now. That will work for lakes until I figure something out.
If and when you rig yours will you post pics.
I look forward to going to the Seattle boat show.

If you're not in moving water, then anchoring off the side will work.  I've also been know to just tie a running line for the rear handle to one of the clip points in the side of the yak.  Run it through a carabiner with your anchor rope through the carabiner as well.  It will slide to the rear of the yak if you get pushed by current or wind.  Note, this setup doesn't quick release so don't do it in swift current.

The other thing I've been known to do is just reach back to the fathest attach point I can reach and clip off there.  As long as you're again not in swift current, it's not so bad.

Attaching a flat bar of metal flat on top of those ridges seems like it might work. And attaching it by pop-rivets may be able to get you by not having to put in a hatch. Hard to tell though w/o trying.

I found this post on NCKA by "tote" and his drift anchor rig for his Prowler. Hope it helps.

Thanks Z,

That's exactly why I asked Tote to repost his pics.  I just haven't had a chance to do the cross post here yet.

A friend of mine is a marine tech with a new cad program that he wants to test out by trying to design a drift anchor for my OK Caper.  I'm curious to see what he'll come up with.

My Prowlers have a different rudder mount (same as mcdc1369 has in his pics at the top), so I'll have to tweak things back there.
