Heard tell there be Dinosaurs near Lake Oswego.

Easy launch at George Rodgers Park, short paddle to a couple of good, deep holes (nothing a little team anchoring couldn't manage). Forecast for the day after Christmas is,,, about the same as a couple of days before or after. Makes it easy to dress for the water temp instead of air. Cold and wet but fishable! Drysuits all around. So who's up? Got 7 days on this tag and I get some ink on it.

I'd personally fish the channel. Calm water, good deep holes, and easy access. You could launch on Sauvie's(Gilbert river launch) and paddle down stream to the first sharp bend. It's 55ft deep in that hole. It's a popular spot and easy to access. If you don't have a long anchor rope, just anchor on the inside of the bend where it is shallow and cast into the deep outside hole. The GPS numbers for that spot are about N45 47.84, W122 47.98. I'm not completely outfitting on my yak yet or I'd join you. Good luck no matter where you fish!

I've been under the weather and it looks like the Sturgeon ran the clock out and are safe till the next time. Thanks rkh! That looks like a nice spot and I'll save it. I usually launch right above Coon island and fish above and below it. That spot looks to be about a bend or so past my normal haunts.

Initially, I looked at the numbers incorrectly and I thought it was the wing dam on the Columbia. That can be a good Springer spot with some "unusual" views in the warmer months. Generally too many birds though. :-\

No problem.

I've fished that spot from powerboats. It's a nice spot but one of the first to get boats in it when the fishing is good. It drops right off from the bank to 50ft of water. If you have an anchor stake you could probably even hook yourself somehow to the shore and fish effectively that way as well.

I'm pretty slow getting my yak ready since I play with reels too much... ::)  But I plan on launching from the Gilbert river ramp come March and trolling the channel for springers in the Hobie. I love that stretch of the channel. Around Coon Island is supposed to be good, but that was my turn around point. I have always fished below Coon Island for some reason. The sturgeon hole I mentioned seperates my two favorite Springer trolls. The straight stretch above and the next hard right bend(facing downstream) below were my favs.
