Fishnut.  Don't get me wrong, I love your new employer.   I spend a lot there for hunting and  camping stuff since they have a wide variety and great deals. However, I just think their shipping policy is outdated.  It is like paying a 10% or more tax on the items.  Most online companies provide free shipping at a certain point.  Even much smaller retailers than Cabela's. Although, recently I have noticed a relaxation of their shipping with $2 shipping deals.

That being said, I will go out of my way to find a Cabela's because my entire family likes going through the store.  The Cabela's fudge is like crack for my wife.  I think I have been to most of them in the Western United States and I can't wait for the Oregon City store to open.  I love their return policy.  And again, have I mentioned how much me and my family love our indestructible 12X12 nylon and aluminum palace? ;D

OC store fell through.  Last I heard (friend on city council) it is 100% not happening.

North Plains and Banks are wide freaking open!  Come on Cabelas "West Side"!!!!

I called Bass Pro Shops a few years ago and talked to some rep there about any plans to locate in Oregon.
Not going to happen with our tax policies and such.  BPS doesn't want anything to do with Oregon.  I'd like to see that change.

CRAIG. That's one hell of a fine looking tent!

You can check it out at the ORC.  We are hoping you can still make it.  as for the OC Cabela's falling through, I had not heard that. Now I'm a little bummed.  I have a broken rod I need to swap out. The Eugene store is nice, but 100 miles each way isn't too economical.

I heard that Hobie was going to make a special edition Kayak specifically for Bass Pro Shop's.  Rudder control only allows you to turn Left
 ;D ;D ;D
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

They already include that option - just leave your rudder up (or stuck under your bungee like Tenacious_B, craig, fishnut, rawkfish, DTS... ) and that's the only direction you're gonna go...

I'm split three ways... I grew up with BPS (made semi-annual pilgrimage to Springfield, Mo store) and still buy stuff from time to time from them although their product quality has been steadily on the decline.  Cabelas is a great layover spot on the way to ORC and is worth the trek for big purchases.  For terminal tackle you can't beat the local guys; the higher prices are the trade off for local knowledge and expertise.

BPS and Cabelas do need to get with the program on shipping rates.  It is sad that it is sometimes cheaper for me to drive 50 miles to the store in my less than fuel efficient truck than it is to have it shipped.

Living in the Pac Northwest; I was stoked when I first heard Washington was getting their own Cabelas.  But, before that, I'd been in other sites.  When in AZ, I went to a Cabelas and was taken aback.  It was amazing.  Then I visited a Bass Pro Shops less than an hour from that Cabelas in AZ.  It was everything and more than Cabelas.  It was bigger and had more than Cabelas.  So, then when the First Washington site was to open, I was stoked.  But, a huge disappointment.  I took my girl there and gave no indication of what I thought it was going to be.  She also was very disappointed when I asked her opinion.  Then, she got to visit gramma and grandpa in AZ with me and see the BPS there.  She then saw that Cabelas just didn't put forth what BPS did for customers in the store.  I took her to the BPS and she was amazed.  We're huge outdoor nuts, and that store is what Cabelas should strive to be.  Don't get me wrong.  90% of my online orders go to Cabelas.  But if I had a BPS around, they'd get most of my in person purchases.

I even live within fifteen minutes of Cabelas new store in Marysville, WA which hasn't even opened yet; and eh, I'm just not that stoked.  Been there; seen that.  It's not even a flagship store.  Bring a BPS store around, and I'd be stoked.  Until then, Cabelas only gets my online orders.

The Lacey store is still the best in the state presentation wise.  When you have two kids to bring along, presentation is great, and although it might not be as good as BPS shops 2000 miles away, that hardly matters, it's the best option for a store visit around here.

From a money standpoint, I make sure to check prices at Cabela's, Sportco, Sportsmans Warehouse, and Wholesale Sports.  The other places don't have a great spectacle of a store to visit, but they still have great selection and decent pricing.

When we go to Utah to visit family.  My favorite place to hang out is at the Cabela's in Lehi.  There is just a lot to absorb there.  Recently I picked up a Shimano Sahara reel there,  Looking forward to using it.

But really, I try to avoid long drawn out sitting around and doing nothing but listening to the drama unfold at the in laws, so you can see why the Cabela's there is important to me.   ;)

Also the kids love it!

I try to buy fishing gear locally, mainly from Dennis Co. in Aberdeen and Raymond, and Englund Marine in Westport.  If I can't find what I want locally, its cheaper for me to order from the Cabela's catalog and pay for shipping than it is for me to drive to their store in Lacey, which is 176 miles RT. I'd much rather see UPS make a profit, than the oil companies. Also, lately my free time is worth more than money, and driving into that freak show and back kills the day.

I'll have to take you's guy's words for BPS stores being grand. I got their catalog in the mail just the other day, and I was so impressed that I immediately tossed it in the trash.

I am on the otherside of the travel situation. As a Teacher, I was sent on one travel conference outside of the state. Therefore, I try to buy locally. Here in Portland the stores I visit are Next Adventure,  Fisherman's Marine and Hoggs-Jo/Mar. If I can't find it one of those, then it is on line to Cabelas.

Flagship means one of a kind. The USS Missouri was a Battleship flagship and that's why the Japanese officially surrended on it. REI has only one flagship in Seattle. All their other stores are smaller. If it's Bling you're looking for, come on in. I'll get you fitted for a grill for the big smile pic of that large trophy fish. To each their own.
