Nice job Jammer.   Save yourself a lot of stress and heartache and lose the spade bit, hit up Harbor Freight and pick up a cheap "Step drill bit"  drills perfect holes with no issues every time.

Are you guys costing the bottom of the flush mount with marine goop or silicone before bolting it down?

I did. There is is no downside other than the cost which is minimal. I wanted a watertight seal. I also coated my backing and threads on the bolts. Belts and suspenders.

I put my round flush mounts over the stock pole holder hole so i didn't even have to drill a big hole, just 4 rivet holes... One hole is awkwark to get on a flat surface so an extra long rivet is nice.

Would never thought of drilling over the hatch OR over the useless to me rod holder hole! Good stuff!

Brilliant idea. I may have to steal that idea from you.

Well, both mounts are in. And they look mighty fine if I may say so myself. :)
Boy am I glad that's over with. Drilling two 1 3/8 inches into my kayak was NOT fun.
