Here's are a couple of pics getting some useable rod holders installed in the Mirage Classic:

1st pic is drilling to install the Scotty Compact Flush Mount.

2nd pic is the installed scotty mount

3rd pic is the Scotty mount with the Ram adaptor bolted to it (used 1-3/4 stainless socket cap screws and stainless fender washers to bolt together) You can also see the backing plate I carved out of one of the wifeys cutting boards - ssssshhhhhh.

4th pic is both Ram tubes in place.

Next:  adding a center hatch and another Ram Mount somewhere up forward.

Looks good.

Was there a reason that you used the Scotty mounts with the RAM adapters, instead of just using the RAM mounts?

If I had it to do over again....lol.

To answer the question:  I originally planned to use Scotty mounts on the yak, because they are cheap and readily available locally.

After drilling the holes and installing the mounts, I found the Scotty rod holders to be awkward behind the seat (duh).  So, since the holes were already there, I ordered the Scotty/Ram adapters from KFS (great company to do biz with btw) and Ram tubes.

I could have just put the Ram Mounts over the holes drilled for the Scotty's, but wanted to leave the option to try the Scotty Lake Troller downrigger (p/n 1073) in one of the flush mounts in the future.  I also wanted to take the Ram stuff with me if I upgrade the yak to a Revo or something.

The adapter set up is only about 3/8" higher than if I had used the standard Ram mount so no big deal, and I have easy access to the underside so I can remove the adapters easily from the mounts, I doubled up the fender washers on the backside to hold the mount in place and really torqued it up tight, suckers are rock solid.

I had hoped to get everything done in time to try fishing the Tengu derby out in Elliot Bay, but no go.  Probably go mess around out in the lake see if I can scare something up, hope to get a semi-dry suit in the next couple of weeks.
