Yesterday we bank fished Donaldson Bar in the lower Wilson. Water was nice and almost all the drift boats that went by (20-30) said they had caught one or more. We tried bobber and jig on one rod and corky and yarn on the other with no hits. The guides were using roe but, sadly, the guy at Sportsman's was not at all helpful. He seemed to try to get us to drive 20  miles upstream and said nothing about roe. Grrrr!

A really nice one was hooked just upstream and the guide beached his boat right next to me so I got a great look at the whole experience, took some video, too.

So we went zero for three at Hagg, Bayview Jetty and Wilson. If we didn't have wives along we could have spent much more time fishing, would have gone back for roe yesterday and today on the Wilson and tried the jetty again at higher tide both days.

Plan to hit either Lacamas or Battlegound Lake this afternoon and the Columbia Sunday and Monday. Gotta get a fish for my son before he flys home Tuesday.

I'd say good luck, but my one and only superstition is saying "good luck" = skunk. So I hope you get skunked  ;)

iHop. Don't feel bad :'( about the skunK. Hell.I can't even type after1 large Nikasi Believer. I went out this am Dino fishing and didn't even have a hit. Only crazy motha out there. Fishfinder would not even give me the depth. Had to go back to shore to figure it out and was in manual mode set for 300' of agua and I was in 10'-15'. Good to go. Went back out to where I caught my 54" last year and dropped my anchor only to realize I forgot to put my trolley back on the yak. Tide was ripping with a 10' tide drop and had to mickey mouse my setup so I would'nt drag anchor. Then the wind kicked up to about 20 knots directly against the outgoing current and had wind waves in the 3'range. It was not fun but I stuck it out. Love getting back into fish mode after a 3 month break. It's all a re-learning process especially when there is less gray matter upstairs. Keep the faith. ;)

Thanks for the encouragement. So much to learn and it's a race against impending senility! Should have retired 30 years ago.

Actually I'm having so much fun NOT catching a fish I may have a heart attack of ecstasy if I land one.

My theory for you Hop is that you're in the "calm before the storm" right now. Once you catch that first fish it's going  to turn the tide of luck for you. :)

IHop,

The sturgeon were biting at GR today.  At least for the bankies.  One guy had caught six of them.  I saw the last one he landed.  I did not see any boats out there.  There was a monster that breached just off the beach as I was pointing out the good spots to my father-in-law after meeting up with Zee to snag the Octo-slayer from him.  We plan to get out there sometime tomorrow.  There was also a couple of sea lions working the area too. >:(  I will post up when we decide to head out if you want to give it a shot.

May have a chance to get out tomorrow afternoon. What time are you planning to launch at GR?

I am not sure yet.  It probably won't be until after lunch.

West end (as in ends in the water) of Oak Grove Blvd in Milwaukie.  Its about 1/2  a mile or so downstream from GR.
I am heading to GR in about ten minutes if you want to get the skunk off.  ;D

Well, looks like Craig inaugurated his Adventure in style on the Willamette.

Tim (my son) and I opted for the easy way out and went to Battle Ground Lake. Launched around noon and almost immediately Tim had one on. He outfished me about 4:1 but I still got 8 and managed to post my first little AOTY points! All in all we got about 40 rainbows and had a blast. Sadly the largest on was only a little over 12" long so I couldn't post any Kayak Wars points (min is 15").

Thanks to Romanian Redneck for the hints. We caught them on Super Dupers, Blue Fox Spinners and then just killed them with Bubble Gum Power Bait Trout Worms.

Tomorrow we'll hit Lacamas Lake and see if we can get some Browns or Cutts in addition to the Rainbows there. Wish we had more time to get some bigger fish but still great to just be together and watch him enjoying his first taste of kayak fishing.

Really hoping he will join me for ORC in June.
