Thanks to both for the offers. My wife may join as well or hike Dog Mountain, down the road. Sounds like a fun time. By then, I'll have to figure out how to stow my gear. I think I'll spend a day at Hagg Lake sorting out the details.

Jay

Jay,

If you don't actually own a fishing kayak by then, let me know and I'll bring an extra you can borrow.

Brian

If you don't have a kayak by then, I could bring you one to use.   8)  Just let me know.

hehehehehe... I plan on registering for AOTY the night before, just in case ;)

Hah!  Whatever it takes for my NWKA braddahs and sistas.

These gatherings provide a great way for members to try out different yaks.  If you have a specific kayak model in mind, let us know and I'm sure someone has something that might be on someones list and would be willing to let them give it a test drive.  Just don't catch a bigger fish then me on a kayak I loan out ... unless you're not registered on AOTY that is.   ;D

A record run of 36,800 springers are forecasted to return to Drano ... http://www.theolympian.com/outdoors/story/306213.html

Here's how you fish it ... http://www.steelheaduniversity.com/DranoLake_Springers.html

See you there in April?

-Allen

After reading the SteekheadUniversity info, does anyone have any kayak specific technique modifications they'd like to share. I'm used to tossing bugs so I'll be learning the gear side of things soon.

That's quite a burly hike... we did it last year in May, and the elevation gain was a butt kicker!

Thanks for the kayak offers but....I will no longer need help. ::) Thanks to a fellow NWKAer, I now own a Big Game....yippppeeeee. ;D

Drano sounds fun. Being primarily a fly fisher, what gear is recommended for hunting springers with casting or spinning gear from a kayak. I've read the Steelhead University site. Any other suggestions?  ???

3W - Yes Dog Mountain is a bit steep, but it's a wonderful hike with great views once you come out of the trees.

Let's hope that recent ocean conditions don't wreck havoc with those predictions.

That's something I just don't get.  The powers that be have been blaming poor returns to the Sacramento River on "poor ocean conditions".  And they say a lack of jack returns last year point to a low run this year again.  However, the Columbia river chinooks had a record jack return last year leading to some record forecast (like Drano).

not blowing my own horn , but this is actually the post i was hoping to link my thread " salmon fishing ban" to...

At this point, it looks like I'll be in for the 13th.  Maybe a day or two on either side also.

-Mark-

Right on.  I was counting on some of you OR guys to do some scouting and set up camp!   8)

speaking of camping and accomodations, the GORP site lists some stuff we might want to look into too..;

Are you using an Alaska calendar or something where days are counted differently? I count 14 days until the 13th.

Still, I can't wait.  Spots recent salmon post has me excited.
