Team,
Was hoping that someone had some experience with this Oregon based paddle company.
http://saltwoodpaddles.com/index.php
The "double happiness" has caught my eye. Thinking a 30 degree feather and a 210 shaft.
Im interested in the shaft strength, especially since Team Bridgeport has broken 2 Werners in the past six months. One on the river and 1 in the surf. (Werner replaced the paddle that broke on the river).
Any quick help is appreciated since Im hoping to order next week.
Thanks

I gave them a look because they were local, but I don't think they make anything over 210cm.

Not sure who sells them. Would wood be that much stronger than composite type materials? Much more stylish, I'll give them the nod there.

I would certainly be down for reading a review.  I like the local aspect, but the size limitation, should it be true, is a concern.  I'm a tall guy with rather wide paddlecraft, so 210 seems a bit of a low limit.  Nonetheless, their stuff is stylish and well marketed.  I'm intrigued.  Out of curiosity, what boat and paddler size are you hoping to pair this with?

I'd write a review if they'd let me demo one for a while. I'd be happy to show it off at the GS6. Maybe Alder Creek would sport one for the ORC?

Im going to contact Saltwood to see if they will craft a 220, bent shaft for me. Maybe feather to 20 instead of 30.

AJ,  Im 5 11 and 180. This paddle would primarily be used with the Rotomod Disco and will probably be used with the WS Kaos if it out performs the Werner Sherpa.

Mitchell had marketed a wood shaft (ash) and carbon blade combo a few years back that I was interested in but     I wasn't overly impressed by the blade shape. The "double happiness" blade definitely intrigues me.

Follow up
I went through the saltwood dealer list and found that they work with a shop in central cal that Ive ordered gear through before.
It seems that saltwood does do custom work and they will craft a 220 bent shaft for me.
I should have it in hand by the beggining of next month.
review to follow.

Thought I might share a little paddle porn courtesy of Saltwood.
They made the paddle per request.
220 bent, and twisted to 20.
It weighs 35 oz. with a 607 sq cm blade.

When I first opened up the box and saw the paddle it reminded me of one of craig's boats.
So beautiful that I wouldn't want to expose it to adventures. Then I picked it up and knew that this was something special that I needed to experience.
When the blades contacted the water, I had one of those "where have you been all my life?" moments. It has everything I want. Its got big simple paws, its light, and its strong.
The natural feel of the wood shaft, along with the shaft index, makes it easy to get that feeling that you are one with the paddle. So far its gives me the permagrin and I look forward to many adventures with it.
Saltwood could not have thought of a more appropriate name than "double happiness"
and even though Ive only used it in a fresh water lake and its true durability has yet to be tested, I recommend saltwood paddles without reservation.

I think it was just under 500.
Yes, a heavy hit, but I believe that the quality of the paddle is as important as the quality of the  boats. And, there is a price for the permagrin.

Put a bird on it, that's some Rose City pride right there. Very beautiful craftsmanship.
