Hello all!
New guy to the boards here. I've been browsing the forums here since my dad (Sherminator) bought a Hobie and joined. Been looking at getting into kayak fishing since then. I don't have a kayak yet, but am saving up for one (hopefully) soon. You guys have an awesome site and everyone seems to be very helpful to the newbies. So, first question from a newbie: What got you into kayak fishing?
All fishermen are liars except you and me
(and sometimes I wonder about you).

Welcome to the cure Younggun!

Q: What got me into kayak fishing?
A: Fate.  It was only natural that I combine the skills I developed surfing with my love for fishing.  After years of fishing from my surfboard, I saw a video of Dennis Spike fishing from an SOT kayak and I was hooked.

welcome to the board.  I go into kayak fishing because I already liked fishing from float tubes and a pontoon.  a kayak made it easier to cover more water.

Welcome to the forum.
I am not exactly sure how I got into kayak fishing.  I had been fishing and paddling since I was a kid and never really combine the two.  Mostly, I think it came down to wanting to get off the beach and fish all the water I could see but reach.  That and I am cheap, an expensive kayak is a lot cheaper than a boat that can safely handle the same conditions.

Welcome!
My facination started with Oregon Field Guide story on kayak fishing.  Another contributing factor is that there is lots of water around and most power boats have motors bigger than the one in my truck!

Welcome aboard. Glad to see it's hereditary, Sherm.

Wanted to teach my grandkids to fish and sail. Figured with a lake nearby I'd get a kayak and a small sailboat. Found the Hobie site and the Tandem Island had my name on it (IslandHoppa). Found NWKA and totally was hooked.

What got me into kayak fishing, a broken clavicle, and a taste for salt on my lips.

I originally bought a Kayak to hunt ducks. Wanted to get away from the crowds and cover more water. Found the NWKA site fished once and was hooked. Now I split my time either fishing or waterfowling.

Welcome to the site!

Maybe I should change my name to "Did you miss again, Steve?"

I've been fishing since I was a kid, so about 40+ years now. Last year I found this forum while looking for something else and a week later, owned my first kayak. Hoping to land number two in the next month or so. Welcome to the forum..you're in good company.

Hey Steve...we gotta talk about knocking some birds down together some day.

The light went on for me during a tandem SinK tour around Burrows Island 5 yrs ago. As we rounded our second corner and hit the kelp beds my lady turned around in the front cockpit and asked if there were possibly eating sized fish there. Suddenly, it all came togther in my head.

Make sure you buy your wife one too. And be careful the darn things multiply like rabbits.

Welcome!!!

I got into it for fitness.  Not just the physical aspects, but mental, and otherwise.  Nothing like being on the water to reconnect and relax...except maybe putting food on the table :)

I was a shore/bank fisherman and figured, "if i could just get out a little ways ...".   I thought I had invented kayak fishing until I found the T13 "Angler".  I researched kayaks, decided an SOT was the way to go, and bought an OK T13 Angler.  All without discovering any kayak fishing references.

Welcome, as for me the short story is after an accident about 8 years ago I was forced out of my primary hobby, surfing and decided I had some time and money for my secondary hobby, fishing.  Never had time or money for more than one hobby at a time, I hadn't fished much in over a decade.  I went to the rivers cause they were what I new and I couldn't afford a boat.  Started fishing the salt from a canoe, but you all know how risky that can be, and our water temps seldom break 48 here.  Tried a kayak out and some guy saw me, flagged me down and said there were quite a few guys doing this and told me about this site, then I discovered the "fishing kayak" who'd a thought such a beautiful thing had already been conceived.  Anyway got one as soon as I could find a used one and it turns out my Red Malibu was formerly owned by Allen Sansano, funny huh.

The other big motivating factor was the cost, but I'm beginning to see that you can spend a ton of money on this "cheap" sport.

The other bonus, I lost 10 plus pounds my first year, doing it maybe once a week.

Welcome, Younggun.  I had an old beater touring yak I fished from off the beach in the early 80's when I lived on Bainbridge Island. Before that I only had canoe paddling experience.

I bought a Sportspal square-stern aluminum canoe to paddle and fish the local estuaries, river, tidal creeks, and lakes after i (temporarily) retired from surfing and started fly fishing again in 2002. My left shoulder was toast then, but its no longer a problem. I'm surfing again. But I put an electric motor on my canoe, without installing a sacrificial zinc, and the aluminum hull got eaten out from the inside (sportspals have a foam lining under the ribs, that prevents proper cleaning/rinsing) by electrolysis.

I decided that I didn't really need the electric motor and heavy battery, and that plastic was the way to go in the salt. I then bought a Nativecraft Ultimate 12, which is sort of a hybrid "kayoe," and picked up the double blade.  That was good for the backwaters, lakes, and lower rivers. I love that boat!
The Tarpon 140 came next, for the ocean. Just finished outfitting it to my liking!
There is no end to this insanity.
