Great video, reminds me of my wife and I wading in the water by St. Pete pier and people yelling stingrays. Lots of fun for you. Thanks for the cool video.

Sucks you broke your rod. My favorite part about that whole thing is the shark trying to claim what's left of it. Silly shark.

That would be badass.  Wish I'd have thought of it, at least for a little additional dramatic flair.

Hmm. Half hour maybe. They have explosive power, but not lots of endurance.

Sucks you broke your rod. My favorite part about that whole thing is the shark trying to claim what's left of it. Silly shark.

I'm not terribly bummed.  It obviously wasn't suited to the job of landing big fish (though it did get me my first tarpon, which essentially pays for it in karma).  The butt was way too short.  I was always trying to figure out how to get some more leverage with it.  Thus the choking up.  It's dead now.  Replaced by a rod with a longer butt. I keep trying to hook into a big fish on my kingfish setup that has a tekota on it.  But I get kicked or broken off every time a big fish hits it.  It must be cursed.  I prefer to fight big fish with a baitcast reel.  Nothing against spinning, their drags are generally better...but baitcast just seems more natural to me.

Nice fishy and a great vid! The water was beautiful!

I'm actually a fan of short butts that end before my elbow. They don't get in the way as much as longer butts. But come on! You can't grab it all the way up by the stripping guide and not expect it to become a travel rod!!!

I'm pretty sure I had a spare rod in my boat...Ohhh but that's right, you didn't call me! ::)
