I made some tweaks to the site layout today.

I moved ads to the "outside" of the main user area.  You will now see ads at the very top, the very right, and the bottom, but not within the main area other than the top of the left column (reserved for event sponsors above a certain amount).

All "info" is in the left column.  I also increased the number of "Recent" posts displayed as we're getting a lot more posts these days and 5 just wasn't cutting it.

For best viewing, a screen resolution of 1440 or better is suggested.  The framework will display at lesser resolutions, but you'll find you'll need to left/right scroll to see full images in the posts.  Are there very many people here with lower resolution displays?

One note on browser speeds.  The site loads fastest using Chrome, with an average pageload time of 3.42 seconds.  Firefox averages 6.10 seconds.  Explorer averages 7.93 seconds.  I don't have stats on Safari, but it is somewhere in the middle.

I also enable SEO (Search Engine Optimization) features.  You'll see the URL for topics now have the topic title in them.  Apparently Search Engines like this better.

Let me know if you're having any viewing difficulties.  A couple of you reported issues earlier today, but I think I addressed them.

Nice job, Allen. I thought things looked crisper and brighter this evening. No problems at all.  Thanks for your efforts.

Still having issues with viewing from Droid browser on my bionic. Ads on right pushing the topic text into skinny columns in center of screen.

Also some soft buttons now overlay into areas where text should be input such as the choose file button sitting in the middle of the attach window when doing replies or  pm.
As of July 12th, I am, officially,  retired.

FYI, latest format change has made viewing worse on iPhone (with Safari). Was great before, but now columns are very skinny.

I must have a lower resolution display. I'm only getting about 75% of pics on the screen at one time.  Is this something I can fix on my end?  1280 is my biggest res?  Its kind of a pain when posts have more than one pic and the horizontal scroll bar is at the bottom of the post.  I have to scroll down to the bottom, scroll over then scroll back up to look at the last quarter of the pic.

WR and PDX, you guys should try tapatalk.  It's way better than using your phone's browser.

If 1280 is your biggest res, that's the issue right there.

Sounds like the phone guys have it worse.  Damn phones, messing up my big screen viewing pleasure.

I'll see what I can do to make this better.

Not lovin' the new format.

I don't use the widescreen monitors at home.  Lots of scrolling left and right to see images and ads float over messages.

OK.  I removed the right side ad for the time being.  That right column is the one causing all the problems.

That was helpful.  The left column is REALLY wide though.  Takes up about 30% of the screen width.

I made it narrower, back to what it was before.  Of course that's a tradeoff with making the column itself more readable.

I'll likely put the ad back in the left column

BTW, this also tells me that you guys don't really view the front page much as this problem would have existed there, before the changes.

What do you guys really view in the left column (and what was moved from the right column) and what can get the boot.  I've already trimmed some of it down.
