Yeah, they did.  It fit better in the narrow left colum.

However, check out the latest change.  If this format works better, I can update the wording in the "User Area".

I like this format.

Yeah, I also updated the AOTY Sponsor box for the current 2012 sponsors.  Hmmm ... there is only one right now.   ;)

Time for me to roll up my sleeves and get some more.

Me too

OK, I'll let this one stay up for a bit and see what others say.

Once it settles down, I can tweak inside the boxes, like the wording in the User Area.

Allen, I did get you at least one for AOTY, and two for ORC.
But, the final call was yours to make.  I haven't seen or heard anything come of it.

Yes you did, thanks.  I usually wait a bit into the year before starting the "hard sell".  This year, I'll start in on it after tax day.

From the nearly 100 companies I chatted with while my knee was healing, the larger percent of them had a quota limit for sponsorship/donations and by December of 2011 all of 2012's were all spoken for.  For the remaining companies, they wanted some kind of representation of their product to be paramount in order to get involved with us.

Then the few (usually much smaller companies) either didn't have the bandwidth to support us, they only wanted to support their own locals, or a few threw us bone.

From my experience in pinging sponsors both on this site and in other sites that I've been involved with in the past, getting sponsors online at least a year in advance nets a better outcome.  Kind of like "The early bird gets the worm" effect.  Basically get in early to be part of their fiscal forecast budget, otherwise its digging and scratching for left overs.

I've always thought it was pretty amazing that a contest with 40 participants had a Kayak as a grand prize.  In 2010 there were 20 something participants with a kayak for the grand prize.

Can this get broken off and moved to the 2012 ORC info or maybe the 2012 tournament thread in the Elder forum?

I've never had a problem filling sponsors before.   ;)

The "sell" I give is not about the number of participant, rather the number of people that watch the competition (the whole forum) for the length of time they watch it (the whole year).  From an eyeballs perspective, the number gets quite large.

I also enable SEO (Search Engine Optimization) features.  You'll see the URL for topics now have the topic title in them.  Apparently Search Engines like this better.

I undid this modification.  The impact to load times was not worth it.

I don't think anyone really looks at this (do you?), except perhaps search engines, and even that is debatable.

I may be the only loser with a Blackberry (work phone) and I notice that the scroll bars on the right side of the "user area", "recent topics", etc... is not there when utilizing said Blackberry.  It's not a big deal but thought I would let you know.

Got an opinion on adding a favicon?  You know,... the little pictures next to the tabs or address bar of your browser.  Diddled one up by cropping the NWKA salmon off a pic of a hawg trough.

Feel free to use it or not.  Hope I'm not stepping on the logo copyright or anything.  My wife recently got hassled by a pet photographer out of Arizona for putting a lesson plan with one of his pictures of a dog grabbed off google images up on her teacher blog.  He settled down upon realizing she wasn't selling it and was a good example of educational fair use.  He apologized for threatening legal action then spammed her email with a tons of other pics from his portfolio for her to use.  Weird times on ye olde intertubes.  I mean no harm.

Can't attach a .ico file but you should be able to plug that pic into http://www.favicongenerator.com/ and make your own up.
