Do you have to check all of your fish in at one time or can you check some in and go back out?  The reason I'm asking is, the 16th is a backup all depth halibut day and there is plenty of quota left.  You can't retain any ground fish with a halibut on board on all depth days.  It would be kind of cool to target near shore butts first, check in the fish, then go back out and pick up a limit of rockfish.

You can check in fish assuming the weighin station is open.  And nothing prevents you from dropping them in a cooler in your car, going back out, then weighing them in when the weighin station is open.

Last year I caught what would have been a 3rd place fish in 2010.  Going by what I saw from 2010, I figured I should get it weighed ASAP, so I paddled in and did that, then bled it and went back out.   :)

Interesting info and good to know.  I did not know I may have a chance at getting one of these on this trip :)

Thanks for the response.....One more stupid question....Where does everyone park at the launch?  I've seen tickets left on windows for cars and trucks that park in the trailer spots when I took my boat out tuna fishing.  Granted, this was 4 years ago, but is there some special arrangement?  The parking lot can get crowded on a fishable all depth halibut day.

You do have a chance at getting one, but make sure you understand the all depth weekend stuff.  If it's an all depth weekend, it means that you can either have bottom fish(rockfish, lings, cabs) in your kill bag, or halibut, not both.  If you do want to give halibut a shot, go and try to get one first thing in the morning.  Then if you do get one, head back to shore and put it on ice, then get back on the water and get your bottom fish.

Would a butt or salmon be a valid fish for the tournament? It is the rockfish classic...

We talked about this at one point but can't remember what was decided.  I think there was talk during that discussion of doing something like a bonus for salmon.  Judges??

It was decided years ago that only rockfish, lingcod, cabezon and greenling would count towards points.

We haven't had any issues with this in the past two years but I suppose it's always a possiblity.  Parking is at your own discretion.  Personally, I plan on parking in the main lot if it's not already filled with trailers.

How about sculpin also? They are a rockfish even... In CBY's tourney last year out of Sunset I lost to second place to yacksurf because sculpin didnt count.

I had never seen such a big sculpin before, but he was tastey non the less!

A cabezon is a sculpin.  ;)  The smaller type of sculpin you're referring to, such as a buffalo scuplin, would count I guess.  But the sculpins you find around Depoe Bay(except cabezon) are not likely to be bigger than the greenling, rockfish or lings you'll catch in the area.

I can't commit until Sunday evening after my last tennis league match. We win and I'm out. We lose and I'm in.
