Has the group established an event VHF channel?  Maybe two?  Perhaps 69 and maybe one other?

Everyone needs to monitor channel 80 when transiting the hole and in the outside channel.  Outside of that I believe everyone is going to be on ch 69 for the most part.  That's usually the default channel for most kayak fisher dudes.  It's a good idea to monitor ch 16, 69 and 80 at the same time to get a good idea of what's going on around you.  If you need to hail the Coasties, you need to be on channel 16 or 80.

Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Warning about returning to I-5 on Sunday:  Avoid Corvallis at all costs.  Oregon State Univ. graduation is Sunday afternoon and it has been turned in to a campaign stop for Michelle Obama so traffic will be a nightmare around Corvallis.

The USCG Auxiliary will have Vessel Examiners at the Depoe Bay Boat Ramp this coming Saturday. We will have one or two VEs at the ramp at 0530 for anyone wanting a Vessel Safety Check on their way out, and 4 or 5 VEs at the ramp from about 1330 to conduct VSCs on kayaks returning. We may also have one VE visiting Chinook Bend on Thursday PM and Friday AM for anyone wanting a VSC prior to Saturday. Larry Cox, Flotilla Commander, Flotilla 53, Depoe Bay, Oregon

IME, they can get a lil pushy about VE. It's volunteer, you do not need to do it.

The Coast Guard are our friends folks. (even the auxiliary)   As stated, you do not have to get examined but it you're following the ORC rules, you'll have no problem passing.

Biggest reason I can see for saying no is; It's a contest and time is of the essence.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain

Found out Tuesday that I'm not gonna be making it to this years ORC  :'(  I crewed up yesterday and will be gone until Wednesday.  I'll be on the water, just not where I was hoping.  Good luck to all, hope you guys all have a great time! Be safe & take lots of pictures, as I'll be living vicariously through them until I get off the boat

FP, sorry you can't make it!

Rawk, thanks for the radio intel.

I'll be mixing it up with my pre-fish tomorrow by free diving and spear fishing in Boiler Bay, just north of Depoe Bay.
