I'll give FFTW a ping right now.

As for the lazy leaders... I bought a set myself.

Found a beefy plastic winder, finally thought to look in the electrical aisle for power cord winders at Wally..

Hey Roy,

The anchor looks good.   How thick is your line (3/8", 1/4") and how much did you wrap on there?  Is it all one piece, all I find are 100' sections.  I still need to finish off mine on Saturday.

If you can though, you might want to try tie off the stern line closer to center line of you boat (reduces sway of the boat in the current).  Although the rudder might get in the way...hmm.  Maybe the bow line is a better choice.  We'll figure it out.

I still haven't heard back from FFTW.  Guess he's already traveling or something.   Hopefully he'll check in soon.  I won't hold you to the long drive up here if we don't hear back from him.  It sure would be nice to go out with FFTW given that he fished the area for several years before I showed up.  The sturgeon can wait and Astoria later in the year might be a better bet anyway.

It's 3/8ths, It's called blue steel. I got a 600 foot roll at Englund Marine(handy having that down the street) for around 30 bucks. i should have got 1/4 inch, would have been more then enough. I always do stuff overkill, though. There is a alot on there, didn't measure it but about 160 feet.

So, closer to the end, either rear or front? i did the front alot closer, but like you i was hmmm.. on the rear. I didn't want it to get tangled in the rudder. I'll just see how it works.

It would be nice to know what FFTW was planning on for sure, I was kinda saving myself for that day, because i have a bad back. but id go out here if i knew he wasn't into going.. So, i don't know. I know ill be bummed if i wait and its a no go.

lets just play it by ear util tomorrow night, supposed to be rainy tomorrow, so wont be into fishing until saturday, anyway.
See ya on the water..

Oh I am soo there!! (barring any unforeseen circumstances) Coming in on Saturday evening, fishing on Sunday morning! I like it!!!

I have a slightly different anchoring scheme and I'll bring it with me.

CBY,
I don't know if a mushroom would hold down there. I'm guessing you'd need a prong to dig in. I think I've got a couple of grapnels in PDX and I'll bring what I have for you if the mushroom does not hold.

See yall Sunday!!

Hey FFTW and CBY,

I'm looking forward to meeting you both and I'm also very interesting in checking out FFTW's thin line anchor system.  He's mentioned it to me before but getting a closer look at it in action would be helpful.

Any particular time on Sunday you guys would like to meet?  CBY has a pretty long drive ahead of him, so maybe late morning would be best.  I am however more than willing to wake up early for fishing if need be.

Actually, that's my biggest problem right now.  I can't find my battery charger for my fishing camera.  Seems I lost it somewhere during my move.  I'm hoping it's somewhere in an odd box in the garage but I've already gone crazy looking for it.   I may have to [gasp..] pick up a disposable film camera.

That reminds me, I need to mark up the side of my kayak with the sturgeon slot limit.

Oh, and here's the most recent Ifish report for one particular pair of guys fishing the area yesterday (2/21)
http://www.ifish.net/board/showthread.php?p=1885285#post1885285
30+ sturgeon with about 5 in the slot.

Sure you don't want to come down Z?

Ok, im just gonna buy a collapsible grapnel anchor and be done with it..

As far as time , yea Brian, It's a long drive. I was planning on leaving at 4 AM..ugg, and not sure what time that will get me to cathedrall park. Who knows how long of a drive it is from Eugene to that part of Portland? Never really been up that far yet.. I'll PM my cell phone number to you guys, just in case  something comes up early sunday, and your not gonna make it..

I will have my "don't drop it in the water digital" and i will also have the OS atc 2k video camera with a head mount, as long it stays aimed the correct way, maybe we'll get some footage, don't count on it though... :director:

What kind of battery does your camera take? if by some chance its the same as mine , which is not a good chance, i got an extra one i can charge for you to use, if i can find it.. ;D

What can i say about the fishing report, but :wav:... :blob3:   :headbang:
This could be Epic!!

The talkin is done Z, the Oregon Boys are gonna kill it... >:D

See ya on the water..

Cool, maybe you'll get some video coverage of your first sleigh ride.

My camera is an old Canon SD100 (a circa. 2002,  2.1 MP digital) with an arbitrary little square battery.  If I can't find the charger I can always pick up another online for ~$10-$15.  It's a great little camera and it's so old I don't worry if I loose it.  For some reason loosing the charger however really bugs me.  A new waterproof camera is on my ever increasing want/wish list.

Anyway, Eugene is about 2 hours from Portland.  So from Coos Bay, I'm guessing you're probably looking at a 4-4.5 hour run up here.

lol, nice i got an old Canon S230 3.1 MP elph. i think it's the same battery.. Looks like a small box of wood matches size? I'll charge it up and bring it and if we forget to give it back, no worries cause they were like 5-6 bucks apiece online

I agree on the waterproof camera, thinking one of those hero cameras..

This weekend we'll be fishing the Willamette which does require an OR license.  However any get togethers on the Columbia can be fished with either license.  (Although I think Drano Lake isn't considered the Columbia proper and I'll have to get a Washington license).

Anyway...

Supposedly you will be able to buy Oregon fishing licenses online in the near future.

If you want you can mail order them (not sure how long that takes)...
http://www.dfw.state.or.us/resources/fishing/fishing%20application.pdf

Otherwise most tackleshops, Joes, Freds, Bi-mart, etc..here in OR can issue you a license.
Here's a list of licensing agents..
http://www.dfw.state.or.us/resources/licenses/docs/Active_Agents.pdf

As for costs..
A full year non-resident license is $61.50 and then you'd probably want the harvest tag $21.50 (if you want to keep any salmon, steelhead, sturgeon and halibut).

A better bet for you would be to buy a short term license (1,2,3,4,7 days) with which you don't need a harvest tag.

1 day  $12
2 days $22.50
3 days $33
4 days $43.50
7 days $43.75
