I'll be trying for some ling cod tonight.  Probably around Rosario Head.  If anyone wants to join me let me know.  I'll try to hit it about 1-2 hours before high tide, so give or take 4PM.

Rory - I think I need to meet up with you out there.  I should have at least gotten something for a bite from the lings.  I did get one little flounder early on.  I even used some of it's guts for extra bait.

If you got a flounder, chances are you weren't fishing the rocks.  With braid and a decent sized jig (4oz +) you should be able to feel the rock when your jig hits it.

Once it felt more like sand that I was hitting rather than rocks I moved back over by the rocks.  Without a sounder it's a bit of trial and error to get the location right.  But I did manage to find a few rocky areas.

Yeah, its very difficult without a depthfinder. Possible tho. Let's try to figure out a time to meet there at Rosario. I like that place alot.

Thanks to Rory for meeting up with me out at Rosario tonight.  Fishing was pretty slow, but Rory managed a pretty nice 28" ling cod.  I got a fat greenling, but lost it at the boat because I apparently suck at tieing knots.

It was a lot of fun.  Hopefully the bite picks up next time.  Got some good info and will be updating my rigging setups a bit.

I definitely owe Rory a beer or two.  Maybe next time we'll have time to grab a brew at Northsound afterwards.

It was great meeting you, Andrew. Sorry the bite was so bad! At least the weather was nice :P

I'm thinking of a quick trip up to Rosario for lings next week.  How was the current around Rosario Head?  Were you fishing Bowman Bay or north of the head?  Did you launch from Bowman Bay or Rosario Beach?  Did you try around Northwest Island?

Let me know when you plan to head out there.  If at all possible I'd like to meet up with you out there.

In answer to your questions, Yes.

I've been launching from Rosario Beach and then fishing the north side of the head and around NW Is.  With Rory we recovered at the boat dock in Bowman Bay.  We also fished around Deception Is.  Currents around NW Is, and the head are not bad at all.  Out around Deception Is we only fished at slack tide as Rory said the currents can rip through there outside of slack tide.

If you launch from Rosario Beach you'll have to carry your yak for 20 yards or so to get past the drift wood, but from there it's a very easy beach launch.  If you have an Outback or PA it might be too hard to launch there without someone to help you carry the yak for that 20 yards.  With my OK Prowler 13 though it's easy.  On the Bowman Bay side you can use the dock to launch from if you can't/don't want to carry over the drift wood on Rosario Beach, or if you want to start fishing on that side anyway.  It's a bit of a drop though from the top of the dock to the water.  As long as you've got a reasonably stable yak it should be doable, but I'm a chicken about that.

Actually, I am confused over which of the 3 beaches around Rosario Head is the actual "Rosario Beach".  It's been a number of years since I was up there.  There is the beach on the east side of Bowman Bay, and the beaches on the north and south sides of Rosario Head.

Thanks.

Rosario Beach is on the north side of Rosario Head.
