Ok, sorry bout the details, gotta clean the gear and a fish and I'm kinda slow...and tired.

I think I'll christen my boat the Pole Pole, she's still got the MoJo!

Anyhow, up at 3:45 Am, looked at the weather, poured the coffee and headed to the garage to finish modifying my "Flying Gaff".  Sure glad I did, was on the road a little before 5 and at the beach just before dawn.  Set the boat up and launched, had 0 company but was surprised I saw no surfers as there was a nice little wave rolling through.  Got my rig all set up and saw a couple boats on the horizon, was hoping to beat them and use my running light but to late.  By the time I got out to the 100' depth there were several boats anchored and chumming, almost stopped and drifted through there but kept paddling another 15 minutes till I got to a spot pre-loaded in the GPS, as per Rory's advice.  No boats and depth a little over 200' 1st drift thought I had some interest, but no pull.  paddle 10 minutes 2nd drift, about 20 minute drifts.

There were Salmon feeding on the surface in good numbers and thought about changing gear on one of my rods but didn't have any and of course would have had to release them.   But it is hard to pass up surface feeding Salmon.  It was a perfect Morning, Tide was changing and current was picking up to .5 mph to 1mph, with the tidal exchange I was thinking I didn't have to much time left, Paddled back to my starting zone for the 3rd drift, called the wife and told her where I was and ask her and my 5 year old to pray for a fish.  Doped up the bait again, 2 scents, Herring Smelly Jelly & Butt Juice and dropped.  Less than 5 minutes after the call to my wife felt a fishy tug, resisted the urge to Tug back for quite a while until it started to take line then set the hook (it was almost in the stomach).  Yup it's the real deal!  It was probably a fifteen minute fight not counting the Gaff treatment.  (If you chase these beast get one of those flying gaff set-ups, it saved the day).  My aim with the Gaff wasn't so good, right in the gill but it actually dislodged and ended up snagged in the tail, made it a bit more challenging but after another 5 minutes or so got it aboard and beat it to death.

End of Epic adventure.

Paddling back past the anchored boats, one guy ask me if I caught anything, I responded yup, got one, One What?  (thought to myself, "well I'm fishing 100+ feet deeper than you what do you think?)  A Halibut, Really?

A bit disapointed paddling back to a deserted beach but I'd boated that fish at 8:30 so no one to brag to till I got home, my neighbor, an avid and good fisherman was pretty pumped but that was as good as it got.  Glad you all are cheering me on.  Got some 1st class fisherman on this site and the help is much appreciated.

OK, I was fishing in area 5.

Sounds like a perfect morning.  I love it when a plan comes together!  It's great you got to show off to at least one PBer.   Especially satisfying when they've got nuthin'. :P

So, is halibut on the menu tonight at your house or what? :D
