Hey everyone,

I haven't been very active on this board lately, but I wanted your opinion on this product.  Scotty sent me a prototype to try out and give my feedback on.  I love the product, but they want to hear more from the kayak fishing community.  Check out my video on my blog post I did today at

http://thefishwhisperer.ca/scotty-slip-gears-prototype-introduction/

Here is a picture of the product.

Cheers!

Great review Len. I've used pretty much every type of major rod holder brand in my power boating days and I choose to run only Scotty in my kayaks. My Hobie Outback has the gear arm with extender on flush mounts and I love it, however it sometimes can get in the way. That being said, this adaption is exactly what I've been missing in my kayaks.  I think it's a fantastic idea. I would love to get my hands on some of these.
Thanks for sharing.
Paul.

The slip gears are definitely a great idea.  I can totally see the usefulness of them for sure.
Any idea what their proposed US price would be?

I would certainly give these a try. In fact I would replace one of my Ram set ups with Scotty having these.
What about durability? Often friction type mechanisms have longevity problems?

Want it, need it, now!

Need 7 for the fleet. Hope Scotty goes into production.

That does look like a nice product to add to the scotty mount.  I still need to get one of those gear heads too.

I'll be purchasing multiples IF they don't slip while under heavy load.  Looks like they won't but I'd have to try one out first under real salmon trolling conditions.

It looks like they would work great for my setup. Let us know if they go into production.

Forgot to ask, are the different colors each a different durometer?

That's been an irritation of mine, being able to adjust my rod holder angle close but not perfect.  I'd buy these.

Hey everyone.  Glad to see the positive feedback.  So here are a few replies:

1.  Love the Cuda.  I have never been so comfortable while fishing and paddling.  I have had the boat since January and the roughest water was up in Kelowna, BC on Okanagan lake with some 2ft+ waves coming head on while I was trolling for Kokanee.  The boat did very well in those conditions.  I am itching to get out to Vancouver Island this summer for my normal fishing runs in between family visits.  Vancouver still doesn't have a large group of anglers wanting to team up and head out so I pick and chose my spots for safety.

2.  The slip gears have worked well the times that I have used them and they have not slipped.  I have not trolled for salmon with a large flasher yet, but while trolling for Kokanee I had a long willow leaf set up being dragged behind my 2lb downrigger ball at 30ft and the gears didn't slip once.  That was with some rain as well.

I am sure that they will wear out eventually but my understanding is that the two composite materials have been getting some tests from other anglers on powerboats with good results. The materials are a different durometer.

3.  In a recent email exchange I had with Scotty the status is still unknown at this time, but the tone seemed positive.  Pricing is unknown (and not shared) to me at this time.

4.  I have passed the positive feedback on to Scotty and I will keep you posted as soon as I hear anything.

Thanks everyone.
