Lord help us all with a subject line like that and you guys. Anyone know if this is a good rod?  If the pic doesn't come through it is a fenwick ca684... About 6ft... Baitcast... I've been toting it around for 20 years and never used it, it was my grandfathers and I would love to put it to use.

Fenwick are nice rods, I'm sure it's good for something, what do you want to use it for? What's the action like? Trout?

It's no good unless you use it.
If Rory can catch a halibut on a Barbie pole, you might catch something with your old Fenwick.

I'd only offer one suggestion and make sure that the guides on it can handle these new high-tech braids before loading it up with such.

Fenwick rods are crap. Better give it to me to properly dispose of it. ;)

John,
That rod is at least 40 years old according to the information in the above link.

Suggestions;
Do not use braid on this rod.

turn it into a family heirloom.

If the guides are metal I wouldn't think braid would be an issue? If they aren't and you use it for trout you can just run mono. Better to use it and break it and than have it just sit around and collect dust, in my opinion.
