Even better, the winner gets the GLORY of knowing you caught a bigger fish on a kiddie pole than Allen could raise on "grown-up" gear :P :P

If a kiddie pole gets a larger fish than I, or my 2 newbies in tow, can get on big boy gear, I will donate $100 to the children's charity.  Rory, you got the other side of this bet?

-Allen

Ohhhhhhh i got served! :D Hell yah, it's on!

Only the 2'6", 1 piece poles, right?
I was just out at fishermans warehouse and they have a two piece medium and med/light "barbie rod" setup in both spin and closed face.  I think they were called the 22 and 33.  I personally picked up the Cars 2 pole :)

* Use any line you want (catching big fish is the idea, not breaking hearts...it will also reduce the amount of gear left in fishes mouths)
* As Spot said, any closed-face "kiddie" combo unit will work.  Doesn't have to have cartoons on it.  Subject to inspection :P
* $5 buy-in
* Winner gets $20 to cover the buy-in, and the cost of the kiddie gear.  Even better, the winner gets the GLORY of knowing you caught a bigger fish on a kiddie pole than Allen could raise on "grown-up" gear :P :P The rest goes to a children's charity.
* heaviest overall fish caught with kiddie pole wins (seems obvious but I'll say it...you have to catch the fish ON the kiddie pole, not just have it on board)
* Video footage or witness needed

OK gents, since there hasn't been open rebellion against them, these are the "official" kiddie pole rules.  I can handle the money, and the payment to children's charity. I will provide proof of payment, for you suspicious types.

Additionally, Allen (polepole) says the kiddie pole anglers can't haul up a bigger fish than him and his crew (2 guys from NCKA, I believe) and he put $100 where is mouth is. (donation to the charity.)  I say we can, and gladly take him up on it.  Meaning, I'll donate the $100 if we can't.  Just to be clear, Allen and his crew are NOT using kiddie poles.

In sum, the more folks trying for fish with kiddie poles, the more goes to charity...and the more likely it is we can tame California kayak angler hubris :P :P

While my prized "Disney Princess" gear will see some action...I sure as hell am not going to be solely trying to catch fish on on it.  I'm going to try to win ORC using big boy gear.  :D :D
I'll bring an extra kiddie pole spooled up with braid, for any Princess who wants in on this action but didn't get a chance to pick up gear.

Here are some ideas for charitable children's organizations...

* Make-a-Wish
* Dornbecker's Childrens Hospital
* Childrens Miracle Network
* St. Jude's Hospital
* March of Dimes
* Children First
* Boys & Girls Clubs of America
* KaBOOM!
* Special Olympics

I haven't looked but are there any local/coastal charities that benefit kids.  I know hunger/unemployment and drug addiction are big problems in Oregon's coastal communities for young adults and the children of effected adults.  Perhaps we could with a little looking find a way to help out in the immediate local community.   Our small donation will have a bigger impact in a small local organization than one of the larger national ones.

Saturday.  Yes, I like the idea of local charity.

Any left over funds from the entry fee will be donated to whatever charity you all decide on.  I like the idea of supporting the local community.

That's Father's Day around here, and I therefore have familial plans.  I would, however, like to engage in some offtrack betting.  I'll throw a 20 at whatever you choose to be the recipient charity.  I like the idea of local.  Hmmm....who to choose?  Allen is a strong choice.  Record holder for biggest creature hauled from the deep whilst atop a kayak; in possession of a look that, from afar and with a fresh haircut, reminds one of The Rock; a man of flagrant internet cockiness and therefore confidence; a much loved partner in kayak angling lifestyle crime - he weighs in as an early favorite.

Rory, though, is the Apollo Creed to Allen's Ivan Drago. He's hungry, and has crowd appeal.  Old ladies and PETA members love him. Well, the ones that think fish are plants.  He's on a hot streak, with the recent but slaying.  He has arms long enough to ply the kelp beds and punch lings in the beautiful kisser.

A tough choice.  I put the odds at 2.35:1 - Allen.  I'll take the favorite, but may put a side wager on The Dog Whisperer.

Regardless, Rory, you have me for a 20 spot.  Tell me where to send the dough.

This is South coast  (Coosbay etc) but it appears they do some real good work.  Not sure if there is a North coast version.  I know the Oregon food bank keeps busy in the Tillamook area.  Would be really cool to keep it in Depoe Bay but little local charities are not easily found on the interwebs

I just shot off an email to a good friend of mine whose son is a pastor that recently served a congregation in Newport. Hopefully, the son will be able to give some suggestions on  local charities.

The local Coast Guard might have some leads, as would the Depoe Bay Chamber of Commerce (if there is one).
