Where did Nanook go?

Kicked off the site for repeated conflict and inviting fungunnin to take it to the streets. You can find his old posts under Jself.

You put flotation in your Hull, Right on!  Have been thinking of this for a long time but resisting mainly since I really want to do overnighters and fill it with gear but I can pull the flotation out or reduce it in this event huh?

The flotation can be placed on the sides, to the left/right of the scuppers, leaving the center area all clear for gear.

Seriously, kicked off the site?

Say, I didn't see all the input above Rorys' so thanks all for the feedback.  Last I looked there were only a couple replies to this post and Bingo 3 pages.

As a surfer, I want the kayak leash connected to my ankle and certainly connected while coming in through surf.  I've yet to hear any good argument against that approach.  The leash is longer than the kayak so it won't cause it to hit you.  I'd guess that 99% of the hulis happen while landing through surf.

I think if you had it tethered to your ankle, keeping it attached for surf wouldn't be a big deal.  If it's attached at your torso, could make moving around and recovering awkward.

All things aside, I'll just continue fishing with a partner.

yeah, probably OK.  I was just thinking that in the surf (like with a giant huli) the waist tow rope has the potential to pay out and end up wrapped around me.  Probably pretty unlikely though.

Oh, I WILL be using that one! Thanks!

Do I credit it to you or Nanook? Wait, that's a silly question. He wouldn't be caught dead in a wide, notarealkayak. ;D

Thigh straps work GREAT on an Adventure and surf tethering is.... different than open water tethering. Definitely not a bad idea though. But that's more for other beach goers protection as the boat can go rocketing into shore while you're still in the wash cycle. DAMHIK

I'd guess that 99% of the hulis happen while landing through surf.

Many, if not most huli's are in the surf. But don't forget about the dreaded wali, when you turn to get something out of the tankwell. Or the IHop Unexpected Blast maneuver.

There are far more ways to unintentionally inspect the bottom of your boat than are drempt in simple washing machine philosphy.
<sorry>  :-\
