A question which I have been pondering a bit.  When does a SOT kayak become a canoe, or row boat?

Why does it matter what its called if it performs the duties asked of it?

I think that thing looks pretty sweet. May end up being a "boater" myself!

Wonder if a guy could fashion a set of oar locks on the sides and make a rower out of it for drifting a river?

that is an excellent idea. You would want to turn the seat around but that could make a sweet little drift boat!!

Im on it!!

We talked about that possibility a few years back. Seems to me, polepole or FFTW , somebody, came up with the link for the reverse rowing adapters. dunno if they could fit a PA though.

I recall posting a link to reciprical (or some other word) oars that allowed you to row a boat facing forward.  2 years ago maybe?  Gig Harbor Boats

Gig Harbor Boatworks makes a forward rowing system:

They also make some real sweet small boats. I lust after their Jersey Skiff.

Could be, Lee

My simple answer to the question is; SOTs are boats. just done a different way.
Amos and i talked about this once a few years ago when we each had time to fish more than 4 times a year. It came down to SOTs being a plastic analog to dugout canoes/pirogues.

Don't forget, Outdoor Emporium sells, or used to sell, single person plastic rowboats with about a 400lb capacity that easily fit in a truck bed or cartop. IIRC they were about 8-9 ft long.

Sherm,
They have several really nice packages for around $14K, incl trailer. one id like to put a motor on, well dammit the motor costs as much as the boat... thank you Bush the Younger and your exhorbitant luxury taxes on marine recrational gear.
