Damn,  how  did i miss all the goodwill back in july?  A very belated Thanks for the well wishes guys.

Right now am still stuck at that 270 mark. Portions got smaller with more veggie in them. Due to lower back spasms again limited to walking and various small amounts of other exercise . Not a happy camper about this cuz i can lose my job if i cant pass the confined space physical exam. Have to keep after it tho.

And thanks for bringing  this thread back to life.

Two suggestions, and don't laugh.

1. swimming
2. hot yoga

Yep, it's not going to be easy stripping down in front of a room of sweaty people, but it's damn well worth it.  It burns 600-1200 calories per hour and really helps with flexibility.

I'll second the hot yoga. It is a great work out and you can GI as hard or light as you need to when first starting out. It is also the same sequence every time so it is easy to see and feel improvement. Most studios also have great deals for the first time student so you can try it out on the cheap.

Spinning is also a great way to burn a ton of calories in a short amount of time. An old co-worker started that and cycling and dropped 80 lbs.

If there's one thing I just can't stand it's going to a gym to exercise.

This thread reminds me though to get back on my bike for commuting.  It's a 36 mile round trip.  I figure if I can get up to 3x per week doing that I'll be in good cardio and lower body shape in no time.  Should work to get me back to a weight closer to when I was in college pretty quickly.

Combine that with all the upper body work I get cutting down and chopping up trees (and paddling a kayak) and I figure I'm pretty well set for exercise.  Add a lot more fish to my diet, get a garden going and hopefully that'll keep me healthy for a long time.

Dunno bout the  hot part of yoga but i think  there's a studio nearby. Have to check on the pool too. Not laughing at all those are both great methods of excercise.

The hot part turns up the calorie burning and helps loosen up muscles and joints.

Speaking of heat, adding spice to your meals increases metabolism.

Jeez--I thought I was doing well with a 34 K round trip twice a week--30 plus miles on the bike is serious. Sure feels good to ride tho--beauty day today.

Went out weekend before last in search of elk.  Didn't get within bow range of anything other than squirrels, and only managed to come home with a nice 4pt shed, but I did get a lot of exercise in.

Aside from constant sideways rain, 20+ mph winds, and 40 degree temps, I also managed some serious terrain.  Saturday put 13 miles on the GPS through new growth over clearcut territory with several thousand feet of elevation gain (about 4000 after all the ups/downs).  Did that with a 30 pound pack and 3 hours of sleep, and somehow lived through it.  Sunday was a little less elevation gain and only about 6 miles.

After that I decided to step up the cardio routine.  Been slowly working up adding 2-5 minutes on each session, and since last week I've increased my normal 22 minute HIIT session to 34 minutes.  HIIT is basically interval training.  I warm up for 2-4 minutes (2 if after weights, 4 if only doing cardio that day)  Then 2 minutes at high RPMs and high resistance, getting the heart rate to 160ish, then 1 minute of easier, but never lower than 145 hear rate.  Then repeat until I'm out of time or too !@#@ing tired to do anymore.

Burned 471 calories in 34 minutes last night, with heart rate between 145 and 163, and that was after doing a leg workout.   >:D

Tis the season to get fat, but I'm fighting that!

I lifted my fork, spoon and knife over 1000 times over the last month.  It was brutal.

Due to my back injury last year, I was not able to hit my goal of getting under 300.  2013 will find me in the pool more, on the water more, and watching my intake better.
