I can't seem to catch in freshwater.  Over the past two days I spent 7 hours on Moses Lake and 5 hours on Potholes and caught zilch.

Good grief, but Moses Lake is SHALLOW.  Saw some fish in about 10' of water north of Galley Island in the saddle, but no takers or tasters.  Other than that the dominant species seems to be carp.  Big carp.  When I go back I think I'll fish for them with a golf club.

I was interested mostly in walleye, and Potholes is the more interesting lake.  Found what were probably walleye holding in 60' between the rock pile and Goose Island.  This is where I thought a likely area for them would be, post spawn, bright sunshine, good bottom structure, relief from a strong surface algae bloom.  I showed them everything.  Jigs, worm harness, squidders, carolina worm rig, on bottom bouncers, Lindy sinkers, bullet sinkers  ...  Nada.  At times I could watch the fish following my gear, but no takers nor tasters.

The alga made the Potholes water green and in some places it was so thick it had coagulated into corn kernel-like clumps.  It made green scum streamers on the water surface aligned with the wind direction.

On the other hand, the freshwater is easy on the gear on a multi-day trip when rinsing is not possible.

Still had a good time - nice weather, good food et, good drink drunk, fine cigars smoked.  My buddy caught the only fish of the trip.  Literally 2 minutes after launching into Potholes from Sullivan Dam, he hooked a smallmouth - maybe pushing 6".

Will probably spend no time on the water between now and the salmon/crab opener in Puget Sound 01 July.

we always had good luck out in front of the state park and north trolling over the humps, and in the southwest corner in the coulee (forget the name).  too bad you got no love from the fishes, i havent spent any time on Moses.

Thanks, maybe next time I'll launch from the state park.  Lind Coulee is at the SE corner.  Just north of the state park is Frenchman Hills Wasteway.
